Long Pan Posted September 6, 2007 at 01:31 PM Report Share Posted September 6, 2007 at 01:31 PM I just bought a Palm TX in Beijing which comes with CJKOS. It works well except on 3 small issues. Maybe some of you might be able to help No problem to read Chinese documents on Documents to Go; the only trouble is that I cannot input Chinese. Neither pinyin nor character recognition work (although Chinese input works in the agenda or memo applications) What to do? Following some advise from this forum, I’ve also installed the CJKOS font 10 and 24. But on “Documents to Go” CJKOS just gives me 2 fonts to read (a small and a big one where 10=12 and 16=24). I’ve installed the phrase input option (also advised in other threads): it works well but I find it a bit short compared to the phrase database under Windows or even in my mobile phone. For instance, if I input “nishishei” CJKOS gives nothing, as on Windows I first get a 你是 and then a 谁. Any possibility to upgrade the database? Thanks for your help

This is the normal to invoke the CJKOS keyboard. # Following some advise from this forum, I’ve also installed the CJKOS font 10 and 24. You could try installing these fonts from that CJKOS zip file. It's a word-based input system. 你是谁 is not really one word. See some more Palm input choices here. Most of them are in Chinese only and intended for the Treo with a keyboard, though. http://www.pdabase.com/download/Index.asp?CateID=13&SubCateID=

Is this with the pre-installed version of DocsToGo? What version number is it? Sometimes the order of installation matters, either CJKOS has to be installed before DocsToGo, or DocsToGo before CJKOS. I don't quite remember. But if they are both pre-installed on your system, then I don't know why it's not working. Is your TX different from Long Pan's? Xiao Kui Posted September 6, 2007 at 04:29 PM Report Share Posted September 6, 2007 at 04:29 PM CKJOS was preinstalled. I can't remember if Docs to Go was preinstalled or I installed it off the disk that came with the TX. Well, if it requires re-installation I won't have time to mess with it for a few more days. roddy Posted September 6, 2007 at 09:39 PM Report Share Posted September 6, 2007 at 09:39 PM I think I had the same problem with Docs to Go - basically if you use the desktop app to convert documents to convert them to docs to go files, you'll lose the Chinese (although I seem to remember that making sure the filename and the first line of the file are English might fix this). I found that the best option is not to use the desktop app, just send the .docs direct to your PDA via Hotsync or by placing onto an SD card, and open them as native word docs. ipsi() Posted September 7, 2007 at 12:48 AM Report Share Posted September 7, 2007 at 12:48 AM I've also got the problem of Docs to Go not working with Chinese. I know for a fact that CJKOS was installed prior to Docs, and seems to be built into the ROM, which would make installing Docs to Go first rather hard... As Roddy said the easiest solution is to use “Palm Quick install” (the desktop application) to synchronise your file. You can also do it with Documents to Go desktop application, but then on the right window ("details") you should select “word document” in the "handheld format" field instead of "Word to Go" which seems to destroy 汉字 (same for xls or powerpoint). On the other hand the "Words to Go" version is much better to read French accents than the "Word version"; it takes also less space

Long Pan Posted September 7, 2007 at 05:43 AM Author Report Share Posted September 7, 2007 at 05:43 AM Just followed your advise Gato… HotSync operation started for Pascal on 09/07/07 13:33:02 - Installed file: C:Program FilesPalmPascalInstallFGBK10F.PDB - Installed file: C:Program FilesPalmPascalInstallFGBK12F.PDB - Installed file: C:Program FilesPalmPascalInstallFGBK16F.PDB - Installed file: C:Program FilesPalmPascalInstallFGBK24F.PDB … but still only 2 font sizes in Documents to Go. Though it is not a big deal (I currently read only the bigger size), it might be useful later. Do you all can read 4 size font in Documents to Go? Maybe this programm can only support 2 sizes ? gato Posted September 7, 2007 at 08:11 AM Report Share Posted September 7, 2007 at 08:11 AM Do you all can read 4 size font in Documents to Go? Maybe this programm can only support 2 sizes ? Hmm. Maybe it is a DocsToGo problem. On my Treo, the larger fonts don't show up very clearly (there's an overlap between lines) when running DocsToGo. I don't have too much an issue with it. I also use TealDoc reader, which works nicely with PlecoDict's "instant access" lookup feature.
Long Pan Posted September 11, 2007 at 10:11 AM Author Report Share Posted September 11, 2007 at 10:11 AM Mind that on my TX, I had conflicts between Pleco and CJKOS which I managed to solve by deleting the GBK fonts. Now I work with GB + BIG5 (12, 16, 24) and everything is perfect (eventhough as said previously, only 2 fonts are used on Docs to Go). See here for more details.
