teachinator Posted September 7, 2007 at 05:35 AM Report Posted September 7, 2007 at 05:35 AM I’m posting this for a good friend who lives in Beijing. He and his family are moving to the U.S. in 2008, and he is looking for an English tutor not too far from BNU for his 9-year-old daughter, to help her polish her English before she starts at a U.S. elementary school. She already speaks pretty good English and has attended “English camp” in the summer in the United States for the past couple of years. Her parents mostly want someone who can help her improve her writing. (She had a tutor in the U.S. this past summer that they were quite happy with. That tutor had her writing a lot of stories, so a continuation of that approach might be effective.) I think this will be a two-hour-a-week gig. Because she and her parents can all speak English, the tutor doesn’t need to speak good Chinese, and probably doesn’t need to speak Chinese at all. What you do need is to have excellent speaking and writing skills in Standard American English, know how to coach a child in writing, and have good rapport with her. If you have teaching experience with kids already, that would be ideal. She is a nice and very bright child and her parents are very pleasant people who should be easy to work with. If you are interested, please call or email her dad, Edgar Xiong, at 13911269781 or edgar_xiongchina@yahoo.com.cn. Tell him you are responding to Susan’s ad. Please feel free to pass this on to teacher friends. Quote
