I put this in the Grammar column, but though a lot of people have looked at it, no one has answered, so I'm putting it here, to see if I have any better luck.

I'm trying to learn a bit of written Mandarin, and perhaps a little Cantonese on the side. (Most Chinese Speakers in this area are Cantonese, though there is one elderly lady in a family of Cantonese who speaks only Minnan.)

I've been using CEDICT, though it appears there are some phrases it hasn't gotten to yet. I've been concentrating on GB, though I also have the Traditional CEDICT.

I would like to know the pin yin, jyutpin, and English translation for the following phrases:

万物

没有

一样

(If any of these don't make sense in Cantonese, I'd appreciate knowing the "proper" form.)

Thanks very much,

Jim Wagner

万物 wanwu:everything on the earth

eg春天来了,万物复苏。the spring is coming ,everything wake up。

没有 mei you:have no

eg:我没有钱,i have no money

一样 yi yang:the same

eg:这两样东西是一样的,the two things are the same。

我的解释可能不精确 :wall

back;

Thanks very much!

I'll stash those into a lexicon somewhere and hang on to them.

感谢非常!

(No, I don't know that much Chinese; I translated it through Babelfish, which should be all right for short phrases.)

I thought it had to be 非常感谢 (fei1 chang2 gan3 xie4), rather than 感谢非常 (gan3 xie4 fei1 chang2). Can anyone confirm this?

totally agree!

非常感谢=thanks a lot or thank you very much.

it is just like we usually say "thank you very much", not "very much thank you"
