Wu dialects are often classified into Northern (Shanghai, Suzhou, Ningbo, Wuxi) and Southern (Wenzhou). Southern is more conservative, Northern has more Mandarin influence (more putonghua vocabulary) and has seen more diphthong reduction.

No I think it's Wenzhou-hua. Actually, a Wenzhou person sent me the song and said it was too. In anycase, it's a Wu dialect, since you can hear the voiced initials.

I'd say not much different from mandarin to the foreign ear.

I think it's sung with a lot of Mandarin vocabulary and structure. Conversational Wenzhounese sounds nothing like Mandarin.
