shandongcn Posted May 3, 2004 at 02:41 PM Report Posted May 3, 2004 at 02:41 PM Don't tattoo,ok! trust me! Quote
davechan12 Posted May 6, 2004 at 05:35 AM Author Report Posted May 6, 2004 at 05:35 AM why not tattoo it? whats wrong? Quote
shandongcn Posted May 6, 2004 at 09:38 AM Report Posted May 6, 2004 at 09:38 AM Firstly,as a phrase,"晚风"has no special meaning .Secondly,as a calligraphy ,in my opinion , "晚风"are not good enough. And the last reason is ,I donot agree with tatooing. Quote
pazu Posted May 6, 2004 at 01:01 PM Report Posted May 6, 2004 at 01:01 PM While I don't like tattooing too, I think if you really want to make one on your body, Night Wind is quite a good one... just my opinion. The meaning maybe philosophical or subtle, but 晚風 gave me a view of serene sky, peaceful and calm. Quote
shibo77 Posted May 6, 2004 at 11:14 PM Report Posted May 6, 2004 at 11:14 PM I think 夜風ye4feng1(breeze of the night) sounds better. - Shibo Quote
sm_sung Posted May 7, 2004 at 10:53 AM Report Posted May 7, 2004 at 10:53 AM I think shibo77 is right. 夜風(ye4feng1), would probably be better on the ears. Lends a more classical feel to the expression. Besides, 晚(wan3) also means late, so 晚風 could just as well mean "late wind" Quote
林彪 Posted May 7, 2004 at 03:03 PM Report Posted May 7, 2004 at 03:03 PM I think 晚风 sounds more masculine and forboding than 夜风. If you're going to get a tattoo, I think 晚风 is actually a relatively good thing to tattoo on yourself. It's better than 女儿 ("daughter"), which believe it or not, I once saw a MAN had tattooed on his neck. (Maybe the tattoo artist was playing a joke on him?) But then, I am not a native speaker of Chinese, so I suggest you consult with several native speakers and ask them what they think about your proposed tattoo design before you get it. Anyway, I think tattooing yourself is kind of dumb, because you're inevitably going to regret it in 20 years when it's no longer fashionable to have Chinese characters tattooed on yourself. I wouldn't tattoo myself with anything, neither Chinese nor English. Quote
davechan12 Posted May 7, 2004 at 05:34 PM Author Report Posted May 7, 2004 at 05:34 PM hey guys really appreciate the feedback and thanx for lookin out for me, however, i will still get it tatted no matter what... and lookin 20 yrs into the future i probably wont care what the hell my body looks like... just more about doin it now and NOT regrettin it later in the future.. ill b ok but thanx to all who replied.... pazu Posted May 7, 2004 at 06:47 PM Report Posted May 7, 2004 at 06:47 PM Yèfēng sounds worse indeed. The fourth tone of Ye (yè) interrupted the peaceful concept, it seems to me a yell in the silent night. Yè is a shout. The third tone in Wănfēng, contributes to a mind picture of serenity. Definitely Wănfēng 晚風 is better, much better. For a tonal language, consider the rhythm of the tones whenever you make a tattoo. Quote
Quest Posted May 7, 2004 at 10:14 PM Report Posted May 7, 2004 at 10:14 PM 晚风(wan3feng1) is a lot better. 夜风is hardly poetic, it sounds weird to me too. Quote
skylee Posted May 8, 2004 at 01:18 AM Report Posted May 8, 2004 at 01:18 AM 晚風 is better. It reminds me of a Canto pop song, which goes "The night wind is like a dream, flowing slowly" (晚風像夢, 在悠悠流動 ...) But I don't like tattoos. Sorry. Quote
back Posted May 8, 2004 at 12:23 PM Report Posted May 8, 2004 at 12:23 PM 如果你一定要纹身的话,当然是“晚风”比“夜风”有意境的多。 wanfen is much better. Quote
hparade Posted May 8, 2004 at 02:20 PM Report Posted May 8, 2004 at 02:20 PM I don't know, to my ears wanfeng sounds better than yefeng, but could it has other meaning than just night breeze? Quote
