Over 700 pages or something like that?? Howard Goldblatt really is a blast of a translator. Is this a textbook or what, I've never seen it. Thanks for that link, ekops108. xuechengfeng are you reading this for a course and where? Quote
gato Posted June 11, 2009 at 03:32 AM Report Posted June 11, 2009 at 03:32 AM Not sure if xuefengcheng is still reading, since this is a thead started 5 years ago. By the way, we read a story by Yu Dafu a couple of years ago as a story of the month: http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/14958-short-story-by-%e9%83%81%e8%be%be%e5%a4%ab-yu-dafu-%e6%98%a5%e9%a3%8e%e6%b2%89%e9%86%89%e7%9a%84%e6%99%9a%e4%b8%8a-spring-night Short Story by 郁达夫 (Yu Dafu) - 春风沉醉的晚上 (Spring Night) Quote

studentyoung Posted June 11, 2009 at 09:19 AM Report Posted June 11, 2009 at 09:19 AM (edited) not so easy to find something good It’s full of refined feelings in the story. He feels lonely, but he doesn’t know how to express his feelings to others, for his sentiment as a student from a developing country in a developed one. He’s longing for love & sex with his pure, blue and poetic heart, which he is too shy to declare and tries so hard to constrain, but the reality only gives him frustration. He thinks that he’s sinking in lewd ideas. However, he’s sinking in loneliness, in my opinion. Cheers! studentyoung Posted June 13, 2009 at 04:13 AM Report Posted June 13, 2009 at 04:13 AM (edited) Leaving for a strange place on a coach at a quiet night Pent-up feelings under the cold moon are particularly melancholy Lights far away from windows can’t understand a passing traveler’s sentiment Flashing and dimming, they drag his tears out of his eyes. (by studentyoung on Jun, 13, 2009) 《风入松•郁达夫<沉沦>的故事梗概》by studentyoung on Jun. 19,2009 酒载江湖若许年, 往事幻如烟。
