linsuey Posted September 16, 2007 at 03:17 AM Report Share Posted September 16, 2007 at 03:17 AM Hi, Just a quick question. Does anyone know how to download QQ for a mac computer? The QQ website seems to only allow their program to run on Windows. It's such a great way to learn Chinese but I can't find the right software! Thank you
muyongshi Posted September 16, 2007 at 12:59 PM Report Share Posted September 16, 2007 at 12:59 PM There are two programs (both not too great in my humble opinion:roll:) and here are the links.... Luma QQ iQQ I personally would recommend Luma. It still has bugs like sometimes I can't see what the other person sent to me but all in all it works. pazu Posted September 17, 2007 at 02:10 AM Report Share Posted September 17, 2007 at 02:10 AM Are there any Jabber gateway for QQ? I tried some but all failed to work. I like MSN better than QQ, what I want to do with QQ is to chat with my friends here in China, but the Tencent QQ offered too much rubbish. muyongshi Posted September 17, 2007 at 06:02 AM Report Share Posted September 17, 2007 at 06:02 AM As far as I know- no. I use adium and due to a change in the way the QQ does log on's (it now uses the letter thing for confirmation- at least that is what I read on some forums) makes it impossible to log on through adium or jabber. linsuey Posted September 17, 2007 at 11:17 AM Author Report Share Posted September 17, 2007 at 11:17 AM Thank you both for you tips! Yea, I prefer msn (primarily because it's very easy to download for macs!) but all my Chinese friends use qq and don't have msn accounts. Plus, I would really like to chat with them. I downloaded iQQ but it's saying there's a problem connecting with the server. I tried downloading Luma but (probably because my Chinese is so shocking) I couldn't find the link to download it. All I found was Luma's message that creating a mac version of qq is "ongoing." Am I going to the wrong page or something?

ipsi() Posted September 18, 2007 at 12:48 AM Report Share Posted September 18, 2007 at 12:48 AM You could also try Adium, which supports a variety of protocols (including QQ apparently). I use Pidgin on Windows, though I've not tried the QQ protocol. It's also all in English, which should make your life easier
muyongshi Posted September 18, 2007 at 10:36 AM Report Share Posted September 18, 2007 at 10:36 AM You could also try Adium, which supports a variety of protocols (including QQ apparently). See post #4 I use adium and due to a change in the way the QQ does log on's (it now uses the letter thing for confirmation- at least that is what I read on some forums) makes it impossible to log on through adium or jabber. In case I made it sound unsure if it would work or it not....it doesn't and it bugs me.
ipsi() Posted September 18, 2007 at 11:54 PM Report Share Posted September 18, 2007 at 11:54 PM Huh. Totally missed that. My bad. I was looking for links, and only skimmed the first few posts to see if it had already been mentioned.
