heifeng Posted September 17, 2007 at 04:08 AM Report Posted September 17, 2007 at 04:08 AM Ok, you may already know this but the 726 no longer exists!!! So if you are heading up to wudaokou there is now a 690 that stops at jishuitan, shifan daxue, beitaipingzhung.....some others...and then wudaokou... www.bjbus.com for other route info... 1 hour of my life is gone forever waiting for the 726 this morning...sigh.. roddy Posted September 17, 2007 at 04:54 AM Report Posted September 17, 2007 at 04:54 AM No! That was one of my favorite buses (the 'Going to wudaokou cafes to pretend to work' bus) .What next, the 27? The 701!??! Quote
heifeng Posted September 17, 2007 at 07:13 AM Author Report Posted September 17, 2007 at 07:13 AM 27 is still up and running...at least as of yesterday when i was last smooshed on it.. there are some other new lines popping up tho...(unless they also replaced some others that I am not familiar with) look for a 635 around the BNU area too. Maybe that goes to some good 'pretend' work cafes hehe. oh yeah, fyi apparently the change still isn't in the website I gave above...but it should be eventually. Apparently this was announced in newspapers and there are signs on the teminal bus stops.... Quote
adrianlondon Posted September 17, 2007 at 08:47 AM Report Posted September 17, 2007 at 08:47 AM Sorry if I'm a bit late to the party, but I've just found the website below and it's great. Doesn't reflect the lack ot 726 though (why did I just post it here? Cos I stuck 北京726 into google and got that back). http://www.ipiao.com.cn/bus/city/6/62924.htm Quote
roddy Posted September 17, 2007 at 12:49 PM Report Posted September 17, 2007 at 12:49 PM What are you doing on the 27? That's my 'going from where I used to work (老虎庙, great name, entirely average bus stop) to Xinjiekou to buy DVDs and eat junk food bus'. Is the 826 still running? Some of the 826's follow the 726 route, but others run south of Wudaokou along the 4th(?) ring road. My other favorite bus would be the 331, which used to pick me up outside my apartment and drop me off outside Tube Station. Unfortunately it took a different route back (actually it's a perfectly good Wudaokou to Jishuitan bus, it follows the 726 route on the way south, more or less. However on the way north it comes up from Xizhimen, south end of Beishida and then north. PS I've now got a mental image of adrian Googling 北京726。 北京727. 北京728. 北京729 because he can't remember the name of that trendy art district he likes. . . Quote
adrianlondon Posted September 17, 2007 at 01:02 PM Report Posted September 17, 2007 at 01:02 PM ;) No no no. I was trying to find something definitive about the bus you're all on about, so I could post and ack all knowledgable. Even with my poor memory I can remember "chee jiu bar" Quote
heifeng Posted September 18, 2007 at 01:58 AM Author Report Posted September 18, 2007 at 01:58 AM ok, so i officially took this bus now and realized that the beitaipingzhuang stop heading to wudaokou is really far from BNU, way past wumei...not the one next to tube station. So remember, BNU'ers don't go to tieshizifen, go south a bit to the shifandaxue stop if you want to take the 690. This bus route eliminiated at least half the stops so it is 'fast'...except for the fact that now yours truly needs to walk a stop at each end...grr.. I've been taking the 27 to huayuanqiao recently to my new classes on the weekend...but getting sick of the crowd from the zoo stop on the way home in the afternoon. I'm probably gonna start biking it there soon though. Pray-tell, what good junk food is on that route?! I need to start paying attention to the roadside shops then... Quote
gougou Posted September 18, 2007 at 02:42 AM Report Posted September 18, 2007 at 02:42 AM Does anybody have a link for what lines got scrapped/added/reworked? It seems some of mine went missing as well. Quote
roddy Posted September 18, 2007 at 04:39 AM Report Posted September 18, 2007 at 04:39 AM Ah, I didn't eat junk food en route - although you can stop off at Carrefour for KFC if you wish. I used to get off at 新街口豁口 and walk south along Xinjiekou bulk-buying DVDs, and would eat at either KFC, McD's or Yoshinoya. Then when I hit 平安大道(or whatever it is at that point, that whole road keeps changing its name) I'd take the 701 or a taxi west back to 老虎庙. I used to work at a school on the campus of the college there - I forget what it was called, 工会学院 or something? Incidentally, if you get off the 27 at 老虎庙 and walk south to where the north gate of the college is (opposite the stop, basically) then on your right is a very nice 家常菜 place - I used to eat there regularly, but dropped in after a few year break before the summer. The peanuts in the 宫爆鸡丁 were still as crunchy as i remembered. I asked the owner if she remembered me though, and she just looked me up and down and said "记得,记得。你胖了." So I might not go back. Quote
Jordan620 Posted September 20, 2007 at 10:47 AM Report Posted September 20, 2007 at 10:47 AM So, what bus do you take to go from BNU to Tsinghua da xue? The 726 was previously recommended. And how long does it take on a saturday afternoon? Quote
heifeng Posted September 21, 2007 at 08:07 AM Author Report Posted September 21, 2007 at 08:07 AM I think that the bus stops at the west gate of tsinghua now (wudaokou then another stop then tsinghua) (sorry I dunno if that is the same as before or what) It is a 快bus now, so saturday afternoon it should be relatively speedy.... (ps I've noticed now that people have caught onto the change this route is just as packed as ever, but at least the torture of being smoosed is a bit shorter since the bus is relatively faster due to less stops...)
