Kuso? That looks pretty dirty. Turns out it is, too, from the link explaining it in your first link. ha

I heard this term onthe radio today -

雙英對決 - refers to the competition between the two main contenders (馬九 and 蔡文) in the Presidential election in Taiwan in 2012. It is now also used to refer to the two possible contenders (梁振 and 唐年) in the election of Chief Executive in Hong Kong in 2012.

What do you think of 蔡英文 as a name? It doesn't sound very patriotic for a Chinese person.

伊比利亚分离主义

Iberian separatism (refers to the movements in regions like Catalonia and the Basque country)

From a radio broadcast on CRI today:倒插门女婿: to marry and live with the bride's family (inverting traditional Chinese expectations); 入赘 ru4zhui4: refers to a son-in-law living with wife's family

Posted

I think 入贅 is more than just living with the wife's family. IIRC it also means that the couple's son(s) will also adopt the mother's surname.

Yes, that's true. It goes into it a bit more in the link.I'll post it here to clear up confusion:

倒插门”的学名叫“入赘”,旧指结婚时男到女方家定居,改姓女方姓氏,成为女方家的“儿子”,继承女方门第,生的孩子随女方姓氏。倒插门的男子被称为“上门女婿”。过去,倒插门是一个普通而又略带贬意的名词。现在上门女婿很多,也很常见,如今并不是要随女方姓氏,所生子女也照常姓男方姓,只不过是在女方家定居。

Humm.... MDBG lists 干爹 with gān as meaning "godfather"..... Is this a take-off on that meaning, with 干 in 4th tone, meaning, well, you know?

Posted

you can't play this trick with the traditional script (they are two different characters 乾 and 幹).

干爹,in traditional script, it would have three meanings: to defend one's father;to offend one's father; to seek for a father.
