82riceballs Posted September 22, 2007 at 03:20 PM Report Posted September 22, 2007 at 03:20 PM what's the difference b/w 認為 and 相信? they both mean "to think" or "to believe," so what's the big difference? I know one of them- 認為 can be used for something that's already happened. 相信 is used for future tense. 我認為這個暑假很有趣。I believe this summer was really fun. as opposed to: 我相信這個暑假會很有趣。I believe that we'll have fun this summer. are there any other differences? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also, are there any differences b/w 做 and 作 which both translate to "to make"? hanshoff22 Posted September 22, 2007 at 04:38 PM Report Posted September 22, 2007 at 04:38 PM To me 認為 connotes believing something to be objectively true, or stating belief in something to the best of one's knowledge. Whereas 相信, to me, implies having faith in something; hence involving more heart or passion. Quote
文言訓開班 Posted September 23, 2007 at 02:26 AM Report Posted September 23, 2007 at 02:26 AM 认为 - to have thought something. 我认为你中文讲得不错, 'i thought your chinese wasn't bad'. this can either mean that what you just said in chinese was in pretty good chinese, OR that what you said was in awful chinese but the the other guy was previously under the impression that you could speak chinese well. 相信 - to believe. 你说一条事, 我就相信, 'whatever you say, i'll believe'. you cannot, however, say (at least i don't think you can) 我相信神帝 for 'i believe in god'. you would have to say 我相信神帝有实 (someone help me out with the sentence? my vocabulary isn't too good). "相信" implies that you're 信ing a thing that you can 相, such as the idea that 神帝 exists, or the 条事你就说. if i were to say 我相信你中文讲得不错, it would not imply that i thought your chinese was good until you spoke some and now i'm not so sure. it would translate better as 'i believe that your chinese would be spoken well (if you were to speak some), so you don't have to speak any'.
