Etwood Posted September 26, 2007 at 07:03 AM Report Posted September 26, 2007 at 07:03 AM Hi all. In my Chinese class at uni, we learnt about 结婚保险。In one of the dialogues, they had one sentence which troubled me...I was wondering if anyone could help me get the meaning of it clearer. 高迈: 为什么中国会出现这种保险呢?老百姓真有这种需求吗? 小李: 据说这跟中国现在离婚率高,家庭不稳定有一定的关系... My questions are: 1) Does the second sentence mean: "It is said that this (ie. this demand) has certainly got to do with the high divorce rate and the instability of families." 2) So does the bit in red mean something like: "has to do with"...or "is related to"? 3) Does the bit in blue mean (in this context): "certainly"? I just wanted to make sure I got the meaning correct. Thanks. Quote
ashine Posted September 26, 2007 at 07:50 AM Report Posted September 26, 2007 at 07:50 AM Hi, I agree with you.. this is what exactly you mean, because the high divorce rate and the instability of families are the main reason for this kind of insurance.. So that’s mean: 1. your understanding is right 2. the red: is related to 3. the blue: certainly Quote
anonymoose Posted September 26, 2007 at 09:03 AM Report Posted September 26, 2007 at 09:03 AM 2) You are right about the red part. 3) The bit in blue (一定的) means 'a certain' 1) The sentence means 'It is said that this has a certain relation with the current high divorce rate and family instability in China' or in better English, 'It is said that this is to a certain extent related with the high divorce rate and instability of families in China'. 懂了吗?
