Xi'Er Dun Posted September 27, 2007 at 08:29 AM Report Posted September 27, 2007 at 08:29 AM Does anyone know of any online sources where I can get some Middle Chinese 中古漢語(ie Tang Dynasty 唐朝, Sui 隋 or Song 宋朝 eras) texts with assumed Middle Chinese pronunciation? I mean the use of transcription systems like Karlgren, Tang or other systems? Is there any online source that can give me detailed information on Tang Dynasty era 唐朝assumed Chinese pronunciation, with the use of a transcription system, although use of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) would be extremely helpful. I understand that some aspects of Middle Chinese Pronuciation [probably of Tang Dynasty era] still survive in the Wu 吳語 speech of Shanghai (Shanghainese) 上海話, and not in Modern Mandarin 普通話. By the way, I have heard a lot about the use of "Rime Books/Tables" 韻書, how do they work and how must one learn to analyse (the system(s) used) the pronunciation that it refers to? So how can I learn to make use a Rime Table/Book? By the way, I already have a decent understanding of Tang Dynasty or Middle Chinese assumed pronunciation, and good level of knowledge of Chinese Traditional Hanzi 繁體漢字 so I am ready to learn to use a Rime Book/Table. Also, if I may ask another question, is there an online Hanzi/Hanja/Kanji 漢字 Dictionary 字典 that also gives pronunciation information on Tang Dynasty era pronunciation, even though it is assumed? 謝謝您 Xi'Er Dun 希爾頓 from Australia 澳洲 Quote
