optical Posted September 27, 2007 at 08:41 AM Report Share Posted September 27, 2007 at 08:41 AM I have an old Blackberry 7100g that was on Cingular (USA-GSM) that I have unlocked and have been using in China. But of course it doesn't support Chinese characters, display or input. I know these devices can support it, but I've only been able to find dead-links to some hong kong firmware and some commercial application that requires a corporate license and monthly fees. I tried yahoo answers and go no response. I checked Blackberry.com and their sub-sites and found nothing. Does anybody here know how I can do this? mikelove Posted September 27, 2007 at 03:05 PM Report Share Posted September 27, 2007 at 03:05 PM Haven't actually attempted this on my new BlackBerry yet, but try a search at blackberryforums.com - there are a bunch of people there who've managed to successfully install Chinese firmware or Chinese font provisioning files on their BlackBerries, including the 7100 series. optical Posted September 28, 2007 at 08:59 AM Author Report Share Posted September 28, 2007 at 08:59 AM Thanks for the link. It definitely looks like it's possible with that hong kong firmware. I found an active link to download it... from blackberry.com - which as you may or may not know does not allow downloads from IP addresses coming from China. So great, they blocked me. I already emailed their tech support but I doubt it will make any difference. I tried going through it from surfall.net but it kept causing errors and wouldn't work. I am getting pretty fed up with this and I don't know what to do know. I either need to know how to trick the site into thinking I'm somewhere else or simply find an alternate download location, which so far hasn't happened. I just find a bunch of news articles about blackberry becoming available in China - and no, China mobile is not offering the download either.
