lilac521 Posted October 5, 2007 at 02:38 AM Report Posted October 5, 2007 at 02:38 AM How do you say "shame on you" in Chinese? A pretty strong statement, but not offensive - the context I want to use it in is directed towards a country, like "Shame on you America!" I was thinking 你真丢脸 but wasn't sure if that was really quite right or could be used in that way. Thanks!!! Quote
skylee Posted October 5, 2007 at 05:13 AM Report Posted October 5, 2007 at 05:13 AM consider “無恥!”. Quote
ABCinChina Posted October 5, 2007 at 05:37 AM Report Posted October 5, 2007 at 05:37 AM How about "真是可恥的!" and in your context, "美國,你真是可恥的" Somebody correct me if I am way off base here... Quote
skylee Posted October 5, 2007 at 01:34 PM Report Posted October 5, 2007 at 01:34 PM "真是可恥的!" I would drop the 是 and 的. Quote
semantic nuance Posted October 5, 2007 at 04:45 PM Report Posted October 5, 2007 at 04:45 PM Consider: 不要臉!! Quote
YuehanHao Posted October 5, 2007 at 11:27 PM Report Posted October 5, 2007 at 11:27 PM While I imagine this won't work in the context of "Shame on America!," sometimes when I get into trouble, I will be scolded by my wife ”羞羞羞羞!,“ which is accompanied by a finger stroking down against the cheek. Anyway, just an aside on a related usage of "shame"... 约翰好! Quote

Luobot Posted October 6, 2007 at 02:24 AM Report Posted October 6, 2007 at 02:24 AM How do you translate the finger stroking down the cheek? Does it signify tears, a blushing face, no face at all? Quote
skylee Posted October 6, 2007 at 03:11 AM Report Posted October 6, 2007 at 03:11 AM It is called 刮羞. The person doing it is teasing the other(s) that he/she/they has/have done something shameful / laughable. Quote
