thph2006 Posted October 8, 2007 at 01:30 AM Report Posted October 8, 2007 at 01:30 AM Hi All, I’m in a jam and need your help finding some Chinese support apps for my PDA/Phone. I just ordered my new HTC TyTN II Windows Mobile 6 PDA Phone (http://www.htc.com/product/03-product_tytn_II.htm) and want to have it China-enabled before I leave on my first trip to China next week, so I want to have the following applications on the phone if possible: 1. Chinese Input Method - including pinyin and Chinese handwriting 2. Chinese dictionary with lookup by hanzi, pinyin, English – my first choice, Plecodict, doesn’t run on WM6 yet 3. Chinese street navigation software (since my phone has built in GPS!) I’ve found the applications below on the internet but don’t know anything about their quality, stability, etc. Can anyone who’s been through this already share their knowledge and/or other suggestions with me? Thanks! crow610 Posted October 9, 2007 at 06:57 AM Report Posted October 9, 2007 at 06:57 AM I can't speak for the other programs you have mentioned but I am confirm that PlecoDict does in fact for the most part work under WM6. The only issue is when copying and pasting between Pleco and other apps. Other then that Pleco words prefectly. Keep in mind that 2.0 was recently released and although is still in beta will be a great update for the application. You might also want to get CEStar for reading/writing Chinese (especially if you want to do SMS) and a really good T9 input called PlumInput if you want to write quickly. Any questions feel free to ask. I've got a Touch which is a nice compact WM phone but lacks the storage and speed. Quote
Sgt_Strider Posted October 11, 2007 at 02:41 AM Report Posted October 11, 2007 at 02:41 AM What about GPS applications? Also, which version of CE-star do you recommend for the PPC? There are two versions, but I thinkI probably don't need the dictionary on the most expensive edition? When is Pleco 2 going to be released? I'm really interested in this dictionary because it uses Oxford Dictionary. Quote
crow610 Posted October 11, 2007 at 06:09 AM Report Posted October 11, 2007 at 06:09 AM I would just get whatever version will work with WM6. As for Pleco 2.0, it is still really buggy so just stick with 1.x which will include Oxford Quote
