Hi everyone!! 好久不见!! My question is, what's the difference between “绰号”and“外号”?

Thanks

Andy

As a native Mandarin speaker, I use either of these for the meaning. I can't see much difference between them. Both are negative in most cases. Maybe "外号" sometimes can be neutral.

No difference. And negative or not, depends on the context.

How can "nickname" be negative...?

Let's say your name was Charles, and you're a bit fat. At school people might give you the nickname "Chubby Charles". That's a negative nickname ;) OK, I don't actually know any fat people called Charles, but for some reason that combo just popped into my head.
