skylee Posted October 9, 2007 at 11:50 PM Report Posted October 9, 2007 at 11:50 PM It is really not that difficult to use on-line dictionaries. You should try these -> http://www.chinese-forums.com/showpost.php?p=119719&postcount=2 研判 -> http://140.111.34.46/cgi-bin/dict/GetContent.cgi?Database=dict&DocNum=148610&GraphicWord=yes&QueryString=研判 病患 -> http://140.111.34.46/cgi-bin/dict/GetContent.cgi?Database=dict&DocNum=8241&GraphicWord=yes&QueryString=病患 Quote
Han-tiger Posted October 10, 2007 at 03:33 AM Report Posted October 10, 2007 at 03:33 AM “研判”and “病患” are almost never used in daily oral communication. They are NOT easily recognized only by their sounds even to some Chinese native speakers when they first hear them. They are employed more often in a very formal or official occasion. They may appear in a treaty, a thesis, an academic lecture, or something like that. A. 研判 “研” means 研究,钻研,or 探究, in English, study or research. While “判” , means 判断,判定,断定,or 下结论,in English, judge, decide, determine, draw a conclusion. Basically, “研判”is short for “研究判断”. It is a refined phrase that shows the speaker is very well educated. B. 病患 “病患”, in English, patient. There are another two phrases equivalent to “病患”. One is “病人”,which is most frequently used in people’s daily life. Another is “患者”, which is more often used by hospitals and doctors especially in a situation where a hospital and a patient are counterparts. For example, we will make every effort to furnish the patients with good medical services. “我们将尽全力为患者提供好的医疗服务”。 You may find “医患关系” in some articles. It means the relations between 医院and 患者. “患者” is also used in official documents and law materials. Of course “病患” it a combination of “病人” and “患者”. Many complicated Chinese phrased are created in this way. Quote
