威廉 Posted October 12, 2007 at 01:56 AM Report Posted October 12, 2007 at 01:56 AM Is there are word or a phrases in mandarin for being ditched? or if someone doesn't show up! Quote
gougou Posted October 12, 2007 at 02:12 AM Report Posted October 12, 2007 at 02:12 AM Ditching as in ditching a boy/girlfriend could be 甩. If somebody doesn't show up to an appointment with you, you have been 放鸽子'ed. Quote

chinesetools Posted October 12, 2007 at 02:23 PM Report Posted October 12, 2007 at 02:23 PM I don't know the characters, but I remember it as "fang4 g2ezi" Quote
ZhouNuosi Posted October 13, 2007 at 12:03 PM Report Posted October 13, 2007 at 12:03 PM lol xiao jiang, In Mainland there's an expression "打飞机" so if somebody 放飞机 (let's go of your 'little airplane' then you have indeed been ditched...) ps. sorry if it's childish I laugh with this Quote
muyongshi Posted October 13, 2007 at 12:39 PM Report Posted October 13, 2007 at 12:39 PM In Mainland there's an expression "打飞机" Look at this for the meaning of that word... Quote
Ari 桑 Posted October 13, 2007 at 07:16 PM Report Posted October 13, 2007 at 07:16 PM Um, I think 打飞机 means something else. Quote
adrianlondon Posted October 13, 2007 at 10:35 PM Report Posted October 13, 2007 at 10:35 PM I think that's the point. After you've been dumped, you have to 打飞机 ;) And with "hitting the aeroplane" being (an odd) slang for masturbation, then that would have to mean that your aeroplane is your, well, you know what. So if someone 放s it, or releases it, then you've been dumped. See? All makes sense now. I prefer 五大一 anyway. Not many people seem to know this, but at least it makes sense and doesn't make one feel bad if they're not as big as an aircraft down there. I've enjoyed writing this post. Quote
wschao Posted October 14, 2007 at 12:01 AM Report Posted October 14, 2007 at 12:01 AM 放鸽子 = 放飞机 = not show up to an appointment 打槍 = 打飞机 = masturbation 放鸽子 and 打槍 are Taiwan mandarin slangs; 放飞机 & 打飞机 are Hong kong Cantonese. Quote
Jeremy@TCE Posted October 15, 2007 at 03:52 AM Report Posted October 15, 2007 at 03:52 AM 我甩了她 - I ditched her 我给她甩了 - I was ditched by her 我被她甩了 - " " 她甩了我 - She ditched me 甩 (shuai3)(sh) Quote
ZhouNuosi Posted October 19, 2007 at 06:56 PM Report Posted October 19, 2007 at 06:56 PM Jeremy, I don't think 我给她甩了 means "I was ditched by her" I think it means I ditched her. but I'm very afraid to argue with you cause it says you are a Sang hai ning ^^ (上海人) Quote
fireball9261 Posted October 28, 2007 at 07:22 PM Report Posted October 28, 2007 at 07:22 PM ZhouNuosi, "我给她甩了" does mean "I was ditched by her". It sorts like "I let her throw (me) away". Quote
