i hear 'fan ren' being said a lot, but couldn't find it in my dictionary, what are the characters and what does it mean?

A. fan (2nd tone) ren: 凡人, means a very ordinary person.

B. fan (3rd tone) ren: 烦人, an adj., very frequently used in daily communication. If some one bothers or disturbs you by troublesome (often repeated acts),

You will feel annoyed. In such situation, you can say to him or her, don’t bother me, 你真烦人(you are really a person that makes me annoyed)!

C. fan (4th tone) ren: 犯人, means prisoner.

Is "烦人" one of those "rens" that refer to "one" rather than the person you're talking to?

I think it translates simply as "annoying" but a more direct translation would be "something that could annoy someone".

It's a bit like 骗人 meaning "lie" or "cheat" rather than "liar". Liar is 骗子.

Am I right?

hmm...interesting

however i highly doubt thats what i'm looking for

maybe i got the pinyin wrong, they say it really fast

its just so common i keep hearing it in sentences like

keep the door unlocked, your 'fan ren' going to return home soon anyway

i also hear it in cantonese , something like 'fan ying'

反正? Anyhow, anyway, I know it's a bit far from what you're hearing, but it would fit and the 正 is usually neutral tone so in fast speech . . .

“人”, is a noun, which means person, human, or human being. While ”烦人” is an adjective, which means annoying. ”烦人” and ”烦人的” both mean annoying, but they are used in different sentence structures.

A. Subject + be + ”烦人”

eg. 你真烦人!(You are really annoying! /How annoying you are!)

B. ”烦人的” + noun

eg. 你真是一个”烦人的”人!(You are really an annoying man! /What an annoying man you are!)

It is the similar case in “美丽” and “美丽的”.

eg. You are very beautiful! 你很美丽!

You are a beautiful girl. 你是一个美丽的女孩。

I figured 煩人 meant 'you're really annoying (煩) people (人)', ie that 人 is object rather than subject here. Might be wrong though.

煩人 usually meant "It's really annoying me" if it was said by itself. 人 means me here.
