imron Posted October 19, 2007 at 04:17 PM Report Posted October 19, 2007 at 04:17 PM Reminds me a little of this quote. In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist; And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist; And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew; And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up." Not that I wish to trivialise what happened in Germany by somehow equating it to the blocking of websites here in China, but more to illustrate the importance of speaking up and doing something before it's too late. gougou Posted October 20, 2007 at 02:09 AM Report Posted October 20, 2007 at 02:09 AM What I find interesting is how many newssites gets blocked with barely anybody noticing, but once they block youtube, there's a big uproar. Reminds me of the joke with the cannibals at Microsoft, that eat a programmer everyday and nobody notices until they accidently eat one of the cleaning staff... Quote
Rincewind Posted October 20, 2007 at 02:34 AM Author Report Posted October 20, 2007 at 02:34 AM Youtube is blocked - presumable due to content that the censors don't like - but porntube is still accessible. Go figure. I'm actually surprised at the youtube block and think there is more to it than simple censorship. Google owns youtube. Google has a history of cooperating with the Chinese to get it's products (like search) into the market place. I hardly think google would let one of it's flagship products get blocked without making a fuss over it. So I expect Google to make changes and get youtube - in some form - back into china. I think this is a commercial negotiating trick to get google to do something. Or to make space in the marketplace for China to do something. Look out for the imminent launch of baidutube. Quote
muyongshi Posted October 20, 2007 at 02:37 AM Report Posted October 20, 2007 at 02:37 AM but porntube is still accessible. Go figure. And how would you know Quote
zozzen Posted October 20, 2007 at 03:37 AM Report Posted October 20, 2007 at 03:37 AM no worry, Google would make youtube.cn . I guess... Quote
zozzen Posted October 20, 2007 at 03:50 AM Report Posted October 20, 2007 at 03:50 AM Btw, if you still can't get to youtube, try to download wujie. It works at least to parts of users. De1in Posted October 20, 2007 at 04:27 AM Report Posted October 20, 2007 at 04:27 AM They already sort of did. Remember there is a website called, Youqu dot com. It sucks because it's not international. No offense but Youqu is just copying the name Youtube. China should be sued for that. Quote
Loriquero Posted October 20, 2007 at 06:52 AM Report Posted October 20, 2007 at 06:52 AM what's next? Facebook???! im speechless! It would be good for me, I'm an addict Quote
muyongshi Posted October 20, 2007 at 07:00 AM Report Posted October 20, 2007 at 07:00 AM It would be good for me, I'm an addict Why do you think the person who originally wrote that would be so upset Quote
De1in Posted October 20, 2007 at 08:29 AM Report Posted October 20, 2007 at 08:29 AM Oh my gosh, I can use Youtube, BUT I can't upload videos. Does it really take forever or does it not work for Anonymous browsing? It says transferring data from lax-v307 whatever to Youtube at the bottom left corner. ;_; And Anonymouse still does not work for Youtube. Quote

De1in Posted October 20, 2007 at 09:36 AM Report Posted October 20, 2007 at 09:36 AM tudou? I know it's brilliant and fast for videos but that isn't international either. I'm currently finding friends to help me upload, my last hope is a website NOT being blocked by China but famous for videos, so that people will comment on my drawings. I don't remember being sadder since after my last pet died. =/ Isn't wu jie Chinese? Why is it blocked then? And CHina should just delete any videos on the web insulting chinese instead of blocking everything and making people angry. Quote
Senzhi Posted October 20, 2007 at 09:49 AM Report Posted October 20, 2007 at 09:49 AM According to my Belgian newspaper of yesterday (De Standaard, 20 October 2007), the reason why Youtube is blocked is because the government is not happy that Google opened a local site of Youtube in Taiwan, apparently without asking permission. zozzen Posted October 20, 2007 at 12:19 PM Report Posted October 20, 2007 at 12:19 PM I guess Wujie is possibly funded by FLG as there's a lot of related materials on that topics. Just downloaded the file from the site, but both .exe and .zip files are damaged. If you can find one in other mirror sites, please let me know too. I read it in a chinese forum that some users said it can access to youtube, not sure if it's true. Quote
zozzen Posted October 20, 2007 at 12:24 PM Report Posted October 20, 2007 at 12:24 PM In case you can't live without youtube, try the following links. help4theworld Posted October 25, 2007 at 12:46 PM Report Posted October 25, 2007 at 12:46 PM Hi. Just do this : Get yourselves Modzilla Firefox, then, Download the TOR addon from the Modzilla Addons page... As simple as that. All you have to do is restart the browser and go back in youtube. Maybe it will a little bit slower, depends on what connection you have but it works just fine for watching and uploading vids. Remember : Firefox and TOR addon. Nobody knows why youtube is blocked and speculating and making out theories it's a waste of time, could be anything and nothing, the important thing now it to let you back there. Don't even waste time on all those phoney proxy sites, yes, they get you back in youtube but you'll never be able to watch videos. Let me know if it worked for you, it sure does for me. Bye Quote
help4theworld Posted October 25, 2007 at 01:20 PM Report Posted October 25, 2007 at 01:20 PM I forgot to post the links, to get Mozilla Firefox Browser http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ , run it and make it your default browser. THEN, Download the TOR addon in https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3606 You just have to download it, no need to configure anything. Just click at the bottom of your page "enable Tor" when you restart the browser. And once you are in youtube... play this song LOL Quote
