owshawng Posted October 18, 2007 at 08:08 PM Report Posted October 18, 2007 at 08:08 PM There's also a 10 DVD set for Clifford the Dog. I think the dvd set is called Big and Friendly dog. It's about $60 in the US. It's at chinesetapes.com in the us and 168books.com.tw in Taiwan. I'm planning on getting this one for my son. The other cartoons we have are either too vioent or the dialogue is so fast you need to have a high level of listening ability to follow it. Quote
childbook88 Posted October 24, 2007 at 05:38 PM Report Posted October 24, 2007 at 05:38 PM If you are in Taiwan, HK, China, etc. Disney video's are super easy to get and the translation is excellent. The story I heard was one time Roy Disney watched a Disney animation in German, and the translation was so bad that the translations became excellent. Many of my customers said the Mandarin version of Mulan was better than the English (with the exception of Mushu, but who can do Eddy Murphy). In the US, if you get Mulan the whatever DVD edition, they included the option of Mandarin. I don't know if it is the Taiwanese (which I prefer, Jackie Chan as Shen, Coco Lee as Mulan, etc) than the one Disney had to do for China (their villain voice was better). I was importing the Video version, but with the change to DVD I stopped. Some sites in the US still have VCD's available. But with DVD's, you run into regional zoning that my understanding should be on each DVD. The challenge in the US is the DVD regional zoning. So if you buy a zoneless DVD player (available at any Chinese/Korean rental place and/or electronic retailer). I have also seen them online for sale. I wrote more at my blog about this regional DVD Players. Video's, DVD's, and Renting, Region Coding If you can get Chinese Cable in the US, I understand they have children programs on them. Sincerely, Ray Quote
choisum Posted November 1, 2007 at 11:39 PM Report Posted November 1, 2007 at 11:39 PM I used to order lots from YesAsia, but the children's selection is sadly lacking. (They do stock zoneless DVD players and you can get VCD versions which don't require a special player). HMV Hong Kong have a good selection of dual language Cantonese or Mandarin with English (e.g. Sesame Street, Maisy, Bob Builder, Mr Men) and they ship international, unfortunately their web site is awful and it's hard to tell the language. Sometimes the only hint is that the IVL versions are regionalised to HK. In case you are able to find something: http://www.yesasia.com (US) http://global.yeasasia.com (Outside of US) http://www.hmv.com.hk Quote
