studentyoung Posted October 25, 2007 at 03:28 AM Report Posted October 25, 2007 at 03:28 AM Last night, under the bright moon, some music from somewhere suddenly but lightly crept in the air, while I was enjoying the quiet atmosphere at mid-night. It was an old Cantonese song called “一生何求 What is life for”. http://mp3.baidu.com/m?f=ms&tn=baidump3&ct=134217728&lf=&rn=&word=%B3%C2%B0%D9%C7%BF+%D2%BB%C9%FA%BA%CE%C7%F3&lm=0 一生何求 What’s life for? Lyrics by Mr. Pan Weiyuan (translated by studentyoung) How can the rotation of cold and warm stop? How many years have gone? Searching for so long but still lost Holding in hands are those I don’t want. What really have I got? No way to explain gain or lost. React just on hearsay evidence. Have no idea what should explore. 一生何求 What is life for? Always weighing to take or drop 耗尽我这一生 Spending all my life, 触不到已跑开 but the answer still passed me by. 一生何求 What is life for? In perplexity, nothing can be aware of. It’s unexpected that what I’ve lost 竟已是我的所有 is all I got. (music) 一生何求 What is life for? All those vivid colors in dreams 一消散哪可收 are uncatchable when they’re gone. 一生何求 What is life for? Who cares about boos and applauses? It’s unexpected that what I’ve lost 竟已是我的所有 is all I got. Thanks! Quote
skylee Posted October 25, 2007 at 04:57 AM Report Posted October 25, 2007 at 04:57 AM It is the anniversary of his death. He died on 25.10.1993. Although IMHO the translation can be improved, the song and lyrics are great. Quote

jonaspony Posted October 27, 2007 at 04:52 AM Report Posted October 27, 2007 at 04:52 AM Bless you Studentyoung! I didn't understand what you had written here so translated through dict.cn. 顽愚: these characters translated as 'invincible ignorance'. However, there were no examples of usage. Is that really your meaning? Can you tell me how it is used? In simpler language if possible. Thanks! Quote
