cdn_in_bj Posted October 26, 2007 at 06:53 AM Author Report Posted October 26, 2007 at 06:53 AM He's tried BOC, ICBC, China Merchants bank, and some others. So I'm thinking the problem is really on his end. Quote
Senzhi Posted October 26, 2007 at 11:09 AM Report Posted October 26, 2007 at 11:09 AM Yep, I also believe it's a problem as described by Muyongshi. My European bank calls me every month or so (in the middle of the night, of course!) to ask me why there are transactions done in China ... even though they are sending me all statements by registered mail to China and are well aware that I live here. Ah well, I guess it's just each time another customer service representative from the bank who just follows a checklist with processes to be followed ... Quote
shibole Posted October 26, 2007 at 05:49 PM Report Posted October 26, 2007 at 05:49 PM I think the tellers at some banks may be able to process ATM cards manually and may be able to tell you more about what the problem is, but yea I suspect he should call his bank before doing anything else. When I have traveled to China I brought a certain amount of money in traveler's checks. The number of places where you can exchange them for money is kind of limited but at least traveler's checks are low-tech. Quote
cdn_in_bj Posted October 28, 2007 at 02:48 AM Author Report Posted October 28, 2007 at 02:48 AM My friend is in 山西 now and he just told me that he was able to withdraw money from a BOC ATM over there. Strangely, he did nothing differently compared to when he tried in BJ, so who knows what the problem was... Quote
dan ni er Posted October 28, 2007 at 08:46 AM Report Posted October 28, 2007 at 08:46 AM Whenever I've had this problem its because the ATM is asking me to put a 6 digit password, whilst I only have a 4 digit one. Not sure, however, whether sticking two 0's on to the end does the job though. Quote
