A while ago I started a thread asking about people who are working as translators. I got some good advice, and have in fact started a part-time translation job. This time I wanted to ask about interpreters, specifically court interpreters. I'm not sure if this is the right area for the thread. I think that anyone doing court interpreting work will most likely be living in his or her home country and not in China, but I wasn't sure which part of the forum would be best for this topic. Anyway, I have been thinking about working as a court interpreter for a while now, once my spoken Chinese is good enough. I've researched it a bit, and it looks like grueling work. Anyone have any experience to share?

In China, other than the CATTI I have no clue, but in the US (in california at least) there are some programs, but mainly for Spanish. UCLA use to have something for Chinese through its extension program, but I don't know if they still have it. By the way, the waiwenju in Beijing has some kind of relationship/training program involved in that school in Monterey california that is on that list. You could always start learning how to do it here, gain experience, and then get your certification whereever you are eventually going to use it/need it.
