skylee Posted November 25, 2007 at 01:13 PM Report Posted November 25, 2007 at 01:13 PM I like Stephen Chow. And this is one of my most anticipated films. I know very little about the film, though. zhwj Posted November 25, 2007 at 02:38 PM Report Posted November 25, 2007 at 02:38 PM It's a pretty disappointing trailer. I'm not sure that audiences will be impressed by the CGI display - is that what we're looking for in a Stephen Chow movie? Also, is the junk heap supposed to be a reference to that scene in Shaolin Soccer where he kicks the refrigerator? Quote
skylee Posted November 26, 2007 at 12:10 AM Author Report Posted November 26, 2007 at 12:10 AM I'm not sure that audiences will be impressed by the CGI display No. But perhaps one of the selling points is the lousy CGI (think Ed Wood). Chow in the film is a poor farmer who I guess also picks useful stuff from those trash hills. Quote
Guest yangbin Posted November 26, 2007 at 02:19 AM Report Posted November 26, 2007 at 02:19 AM yeah, i found the trailer a bit 'lame'! However, im sure that the movie will be great! Stephen is the best ! Anyway, as far as im concerned HK trailers are not good, i mean, ive seen so many great movies whose the trailers were not great!! Quote
skylee Posted December 26, 2007 at 11:56 AM Author Report Posted December 26, 2007 at 11:56 AM Stephen Chow met university students in Beijing to promote his new film (and he sang) -> http://hk.youtube.com/watch?v=BT3aqnR_rmE Quote
zhwj Posted December 26, 2007 at 12:13 PM Report Posted December 26, 2007 at 12:13 PM What I don't get is that they're revealing all sorts of information in the current media blitz -we know what the thing is, and we know what eventually happens. Do the producers think that people will pour out to see the movie just because it has Stephen Chow in it, regardless of whether they know all the plot details or not? Quote
skylee Posted December 26, 2007 at 12:15 PM Author Report Posted December 26, 2007 at 12:15 PM If it is Stephen Chow, as long as the film is not directed by Wang Jing, I will buy a ticket and see it in a cinema. Quote

zhwj Posted January 10, 2008 at 12:07 PM Report Posted January 10, 2008 at 12:07 PM There's a new trailer out: (youtube), mainland version (Sina). It's interesting to compare the two. The Taiwan version seems to actually be the International version, with English narration over Cantonese dialogue. The mainland version has mandarin narration and dialogue, and a few cuts. If it's targeted toward kids, there may be cuts in the mainland edition of the film itself. If that happens, will there still be a full mandarin version for Taiwan, or will it be Cantonese (full) and Mandarin (cut)? I ask because I'm accustomed to Shi Banyu's dubbing, but I want to see the full version (this preview leaves a much better impression on me than the earlier one - Stephen Chow is in full-on spoof mode). muyongshi Posted February 11, 2008 at 12:21 PM Report Posted February 11, 2008 at 12:21 PM Has anyone else seen this yet?? The only word I can find to describe it was weird...and maybe a bit disappointing... Quote
zozzen Posted February 13, 2008 at 02:03 PM Report Posted February 13, 2008 at 02:03 PM I've heard that it's disappointing, and I'm also one of many who paid a few dozen bucks to buy a ticket and confirm that it's really disappointing. Stephen is a phenomenon now and no matter how bad the feedback is, you simply can't miss it. At least we have to discuss with our friends how disappointing this movie is. Quote
