Meghan2007 Posted May 9, 2004 at 04:59 AM Report Posted May 9, 2004 at 04:59 AM What is the best way to become fluent in a year? I'd know only a little Mandarin, will continue to be taking classes for another year. I will then go to China for a year. i hear that its important to interact with native speakers while you're over there--but I'm kind of shy. I'd love just to find a coffee shop or something where you can just sit down, listen to other people and try to pick it up. But I also hear that only Westerners go to coffee shops... Is there a Chinese equivalent to a place like that? Maybe just go to a farmer's market and sit down somewhere or something... Any other ideas to make the most out of living in China? Quote
pazu Posted May 9, 2004 at 07:33 AM Report Posted May 9, 2004 at 07:33 AM Depends on the area, but in Lijiang (Yunnan) most cafes are flooded with Chinese now. Quote
