While reading the instruction manual for my new electronic dictionary, I came across a few words I do not understand:

研發

本機是為了配合社會的進步和消費者的需求而經過不斷的研發及設計而成的高科技產品。

I'm guessing that it means something like 研究, but if it meant 研究, then why the 發?

援權

本機內置牛津大學出版社援權使用之牛津當代大辭典,詞組多達十二萬,解釋極為詳盡精確。

According to dict.cn 援權 means "credit extension". Unfortunately, I have no clue what that means...

更為,實為,勁量級

讓您瀏覽和輸入資料更為舒心方便。本機實為每一位人不可缺少的產品。亦因如此,本機特別配備以下勁量級功能

Why do some words like 更為,實為,大為,etc. have "wei2"? What do they mean? Are there any more 為 phrases that I should know? I'm wondering if 勁 were a typo for 盡.

Thanks!

授權 = authorise, authorised

勁量級功能 = super functions

PS - 為 in the contexts you quoted means "to be/is". Sometimes it can be omitted.

You're right - that'll teach me to put in the first word i think of with 发 in it :oops:

Oh by the way now that I have re-read the posts I have found that it should be 權, NOT 權. No wonder the OP could not find it in dictionaries.

Typos, typos ....

PS - the way our brains process what we see is so strange ...

haha... I'm 馬大哈...

anyways, I have another question:

多個可供參考知各類辭典

What's 可供?

So, I know that 更為=更 "more", but what does實為 mean in the context?

Posted

可供參考 = that "may be taken" for reference

可供選擇 = that "may be provided" as choices

知 (X); 之 (O)

實為 = 實在是 / 真的是

本機實為每一位人不可缺少的產品 = this machine "really is" a product that nobody can do without

Well, this isn't from the instruction manual, but from the preface of a book for Japanese vocabulary, and I decided to keep my questions on the same post.

打底= "render" according to dict.cn

= "underpainting" according to wikipedia

五十音是開始學日語的打底工夫。
What does it actually mean?

人事物 not in any dictionaries... does it just mean "people," "events," and "things"?

在我們身邊周遭有許多人事物

一口 a mouthful???

相信你一定能說得一口流利的日語

兼具 I know that 兼 means both, but what does 兼+具 refer to?

為了讓此書可以同時兼具字典及考試功能

透過 penetrate/go through. In the following context, does it mean "surpass"?

出擊 "launch an attack"... I guess this refers to taking the exam. If the latter part of the following passage were to be translated into English, would it be translated as "so that every level of the JLPT exam you take, you succeed"?

快速地透過本書達到學習的功能,讓每一級的日撿都能出擊成功!

藉由﹦藉"make use of" right? Then why the 由?

同學可以藉由檢定考試來做為日語學習的目標。

依序﹦依順序 right?

Thanks!
