griz326 Posted December 27, 2007 at 03:52 AM Report Share Posted December 27, 2007 at 03:52 AM I just ordered an Asus eee PC with an 8GB SSD and 1GB RAM. Before I install XP pro on the machine, I'd at least like to ask the Linux users if there is a reasonably easy way to install Chinese translation software on the computer. I imagine I need some varient of CKJ for the display. Then I must get a Linux compatible translation engine. I've done some searches here, but since I haven't used Unix for a dozen years, I do not clearly understand some of the posts. A commercial translation engine might be easiest because I am returning to China for the spring festival and the translation software will be helpful. TIA, Griz

Sure.Go get Stardict for free.It is licensed under GPL version 3.There are already-made Deb package,RPM package as well as other editions. I'll put some basic steps: Download package according to your distro and install it. Download dictionaries to meet your needs Repeat above 2 steps if you fail. I recommend you to try langdao dictionaries first.
