After retiring for 12 years, the King of Cantopop -- Sam Hui -- is coming back!

He just sets a record in HK by selling out the 60,000 concert tickets on one single day.

Sam, who was the harbinger of Cantopop in the late '60s, had almost half of his songs written in Cantonese-style Chinese (the other latecomers are actually singing Cantopop in Mandarin written script).

At an age of 55, Sam seems attracting a lot of new fans. Some Mainland tour groups even suggest to buy out all the tickets in 3 concerts.

I never really like him... but don't count me in, he's really popular in Hong Kong...

Pazu:

Just like the other King -- Elvis, both sound/sounded like chewing some chestnuts in their mouths when they sing/sang.

I like Sam, his style is truly cantonese. You can hardly find those 白话 songs now, except.. maybe in the somewhat distorted LMF or MP4 raps.

At Ye Shanghai in Pacific Place, on Thursday and Friday nights they have live music (singers) - and there's a guy who sounds exactly like Sam Hui.

I like listening to his music - it reminds me of visiting Hong Kong every summer in the early 80s.
