nomad Posted December 28, 2007 at 03:30 AM Report Posted December 28, 2007 at 03:30 AM Are you coming to China to study or work? It might be difficult for you to study Chinese full-time and work full-time. What do you want to do? Your questions are vague. You might be able to pick up part-time bar work, tutoring,.... Salary will vary depending on the type of job you get, hours ... To work legally you need a residence permit, to get a residence permit you need a full-time job or be sponsored by someone. I'm not sure what you're asking about "can be hire as a foreigner". What's this supposed to mean? Quote
muyongshi Posted December 28, 2007 at 03:37 AM Report Posted December 28, 2007 at 03:37 AM Also if you come with and hope to get a job you must come on a work visa and then study on the side. A student visa does not permit you to work. Quote
simonlaing Posted December 28, 2007 at 08:48 AM Report Posted December 28, 2007 at 08:48 AM They didn't give you a straight answer, but the easiest and best paid worker is English teaching. If you are a native speaker with a white face there will be many opportuinities for you. Sometimes it can be tricky finding them. When I was studying I found the private firms who specialized in oral english, like wall street english, EF etc.. If you have certain requirement like you only want to teach older students that might take more searching. You will be able to find work once you get here no problem. If you want other jobs, internships, bar jobs, modeling these can be harder to get, recquire some level of skill and are usually less well paid. Most people teach English. Even the Former Soviet country students whose English is not that great to start can teach English. have fun, Simon:) Quote
cdn_in_bj Posted December 28, 2007 at 11:45 AM Report Posted December 28, 2007 at 11:45 AM By "part-time" job you are probably referring to jobs such as working as a waitress/server in a bar/restaurant, a sales clerk in a store, or even maybe a telemarketer; jobs which many students in western countries will take in order to earn some money to help pay for tuition or living costs. However, be aware that these types of low-skill jobs are very low-paying in China (in Shanghai, maybe 1200 RMB/month at most, and that's for full-time). In addition, unless the employer has a special need to hire a foreigner, you will be at a disadvantage to the local competition. Of course, there are exceptions but you shouldn't count on finding them. I do agree with simonlaing's suggestion of doing some English teaching or tutoring; it will pay a lot better and probably be a lot more enjoyable/satisfying as well. Quote
