We use it often enough.

For example:

我兩人實際上是同床異夢. (We are actually of different minds.)

I have to differ with fireball9261, maybe just personal preference.

I avoid using this word on close indivisuals, like 我和他,我和她,我俩人。Because the metaphor itself means two people sleeping together.

Yes, this is a commonly used word, often in politics, history, people or person who are not in your life.

I am using this phrase and sentence for any two people who are in political or other alliances on the surfaces, but are actually having two separate minds. This sentence would be used by one of the alliance to tell his own real buddy about the truth of his alliance with this other person. I don't think there are that much problem about the bed or sleeping together implications. My dad and his friends used it this way all the time.
