roddy Posted December 29, 2007 at 02:02 AM Report Posted December 29, 2007 at 02:02 AM The EU runs (cooperates on, I suppose) two-year MA's in conference interpreting in Beijing and Shanghai (UICE and SISU). While I don't know much about the course, I know two Chinese people who are on the course or graduated, and they are, not to put too fine a point on it, damned good. The intake is mainly Chinese and at RMB 30,000 a year I don't think they'd get many takers if they weren't fairly convincing. The EU is currently offering scholarships for any EU citizens who would like to sign up. I'll leave you to read the details yourself if you are interested, but I did some quick maths and it would work out to about RMB 9k per month, after fees, assuming a 21 month duration of the course. The requirements for your Chinese level aren't that low though - "a comprehensive understanding of Mandarin Chinese (written and oral) across a range of subject areas and registers, speak fluent Mandarin Chinese across a range of subject areas and registers" and you need to give the EU "first call" on your services for the three years after you graduate.
