gato Posted December 31, 2007 at 02:23 PM Report Posted December 31, 2007 at 02:23 PM I haven't read many Chinese books. Among fictions, I like 《祝福》 by 鲁迅 and 《黄金时代》 by 王小波. For essays, I've liked ones written by 徐志摩 and 周作人. Quote
ajax Posted December 31, 2007 at 09:33 PM Report Posted December 31, 2007 at 09:33 PM I like Jin Yong, who doesn't seem nearly as popular among western learners as he is among Chinese or other asians. Maybe it's an age thing, or maybe we get turned off by the silly tv shows with all the flying around. I've only read《鹿鼎记》, but found it impossible to put down. Seen a number of tv adaptations of his other novels since then just to prevent myself from spending all of my free time reading them. I also really liked《围城》by 钱钟书. I need to reread it sometime to see just how much went over my head. Or maybe just watch the tv adaptation.... Quote
skylee Posted January 1, 2008 at 01:37 AM Report Posted January 1, 2008 at 01:37 AM spending all of my free time reading them. Common syndrome for people who are addicted to Jin Yong's books. Quote
mandel1luke Posted January 2, 2008 at 08:24 PM Author Report Posted January 2, 2008 at 08:24 PM Is 王小波 very good? I've heard his name cropping up several times within discussion threads. Quote
