wenhao888 Posted December 30, 2007 at 01:20 PM Report Share Posted December 30, 2007 at 01:20 PM Hi all, I have been looking at Hao Yi Tong (BESTA as some people know it), Bu Bu Gao (the one endorsed by Da Shan), and Kuai Yi Tong. I have yet to find something like NJStar (PC) which character lookup using pinyin is unbeatable, in my opinion. For example, if you want to find '中国', you type in 'Zhongguo' then the word 中国 would come up. So you don't have to type in 'Zhong' and then look for the word 中, then type 'Guo' and look for 国, which you have to do with all these electronic dictionaries. I think this feature in NJStar makes looking up a word or a group of words a lot faster and life a lot simple for language learners. This is particularly useful when we only know how a word sounds (pinyin) and not know how the character (zi) looks like. I have yet to find this feature in a handheld electronic dictionary. Can anyone give their thoughts? Thank you and regards, 振豪
mandel1luke Posted December 30, 2007 at 02:23 PM Report Share Posted December 30, 2007 at 02:23 PM HI A lot of softwares do that. The software I use, Chinese Plus, does that, and MS IME 3.0 too.

imron Posted December 31, 2007 at 02:14 AM Report Share Posted December 31, 2007 at 02:14 AM If you do a search on the forums for electronic dictionary, you will find many threads discussing this topic. The general consensus (which I agree with) seems to be that Plecodict running on a PDA or a Smartphone is probably going to be your best bet. It does the kind of pinyin lookup you mentioned and also supports searches with mixed pinyin/characters as well as tone marks (not to mention having a whole bunch of other useful features for language learners).
