gao_bo_han Posted May 11, 2004 at 06:53 PM Report Posted May 11, 2004 at 06:53 PM Sorry to bring this up again, but I only got two responses last time and one was from myself! What resources are you guys using for learning business Chinese? There are too many books out there for words. I have a feeling most of them are crappy and there are a few good ones. Last time someone posted a good suggestion. Anyone else have any ideas? Quote
geek_frappa Posted May 12, 2004 at 01:45 AM Report Posted May 12, 2004 at 01:45 AM the best business chinese you can learn is GUANXI. my chinese is broken, they're english is broken, but there is kinship, so we understand each other. why do you want to learn business Chinese? Quote
pazu Posted May 12, 2004 at 01:55 AM Report Posted May 12, 2004 at 01:55 AM Indeed I think the so-called "business Chinese language" and daily Chinese language are basically the same in many aspects. It's quite different from Japanese. I think the book that you should go and find, is about how Chinese do their business. yan1 jiu3 yan1 jiu3 yan2 jiu4 yan1 jiu3 煙酒 煙酒 研究 研究 cigarettes (foreign brands) and wine (whisky, or baijiu~) then you can yanjiu (discuss) your business with Chinese. ala Posted May 12, 2004 at 04:52 AM Report Posted May 12, 2004 at 04:52 AM the drinking thing is only in the north? In Shanghai we don't drink much before business deals, to the chagrin of Northern businessmen. Quote
pazu Posted May 16, 2004 at 06:35 PM Report Posted May 16, 2004 at 06:35 PM Haha, and the Northerners force Shanghainese (and probably Hongkonger) to drink to the chagrin of us. Once I've met a man in Zhejiang, he told me SHanghainese are 小氣鬼 because they drank too little. Quote
