maximinus Posted January 8, 2008 at 03:55 PM Report Posted January 8, 2008 at 03:55 PM How easy is it to get a ESL job in China without having a degree? I have a Cambridge CETL and I currently teach Chinese immigrants once a week, so I have some experience and skills. I'm also not really fussy about where I go. All the job adverts I find on the web seem to demand a degree but I sure hear of a lot of people who manage without. Am I just looking in the wrong places? Quote
nomad Posted January 10, 2008 at 02:53 AM Report Posted January 10, 2008 at 02:53 AM I thought to be a part of the Cambridge CETL (Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning) project you had to have a degree and possibly a post graduate one at that. If you're referring to the CELTA, it is recognized here and it should help get you in the door. If you've got the money, I would just come to China and look for a job in-country. The other option is to go through a recruiter. I would also apply for those ads that you saw (even though you don't have a degree) because you never know in China. Also check out Dave's ESL Cafe- China forum and job board. They talk a lot about recruiters and getting jobs without degrees. Good luck Quote
