Shanghai was the first city in the history of mankind to experience indiscriminate firebombing. Daily bombings occurred over a period of several months, with most of the buildings destroyed being residential. Shanghai finally fell in late November 1937. Nanjing (only 230 km away) immediately followed Shanghai. December 1937: Nanjing Massacre.
