I see there is another current thread on changing schools, but it doesn't quite address the issue that's on my mind.

I'm considering do a 4 year Mandarin degree program, but I'm not sure if I want to commit 4 years of my life to just one city. So my question is is it possible to do the first year or two at one uni in one city and then continue where you left off at a different uni in a different city? From what I've read, it would seem that most programs are somewhat similar in that they use the same textbooks.

Any thoughts?

I know that at least one university (DUFE in Dalian) will let you in to the third year of their four year degree course with a certain HSK score (7 I think, maybe 6), so you could certainly work it like that. In fact, if you are set on a Mandarin degree program (assuming you are meaning a four year degree studying the language rather than actually studying something in Chinese) I'd suggest you look at shaving a year or two off by doings some intensive work towards the HSK and then jumping in at a higher year.

That's a great idea. I was interested in studying a private language school at the beginning because I heard that you can progress faster and have more opportunity to practice speaking.

Thanks for the advice.
