imron Posted January 17, 2008 at 03:58 AM Report Posted January 17, 2008 at 03:58 AM After Atitarev's suggestion in this thread, and following discussion among the admins that it might also be useful for language learners, both Simplified and Traditional language packs have been added to the forums, allowing you to change the interface language. You will find the language settings at the bottom left of every page, just next to the style settings. We have also added a new style called "Larger Fonts", which is exactly the same as the default style except that it uses slightly larger fonts. This makes the Chinese interface more readable for Windows users. (Mac users will find that the Chinese characters are still readable even at a small size, so we can continue using the default style ). Edit: (It would appear that under Windows only Firefox has problems with the smaller Chinese fonts. IE and Opera seem to work just fine using the default style too). Edit 2:For Firefox users wanting the default font sizes, and who also want readable Chinese characters, the setting to change is: Tools->Options->Content, Fonts&Colours->Default Font->Advanced, Fonts For->Simplified Chinese->Minimum Font Size. 12 seems to be a reasonable size. Anyway, enjoy, and if you encounter any problems using the new language interfaces, this is the place to let us know. Quote

muyongshi Posted January 18, 2008 at 01:09 AM Report Posted January 18, 2008 at 01:09 AM I love the fact that PM is called 悄悄話  I'm loving having it in characters! Makes me feel more at home! Quote
imron Posted January 18, 2008 at 02:06 AM Author Report Posted January 18, 2008 at 02:06 AM I love the fact that PM is called 悄悄話I see you've opted for the traditional character interface then?Edit: Actually I take that back. In the traditional interface, it's translated as: 私人訊息 Quote
muyongshi Posted January 18, 2008 at 03:14 AM Report Posted January 18, 2008 at 03:14 AM Ha ha...no I noticed that after I typed it and it was just a shift+space got bumped on my input. I think the traditional one though is more accurate in terms of both meaning and translation. Quote

atitarev Posted February 13, 2008 at 09:56 PM Report Posted February 13, 2008 at 09:56 PM A small bug: if you use English (US) or 繁體中文 and click on the reply button, it add RE: if you use 简体中文, it adds 回复: to the subject line. Quote
82riceballs Posted February 13, 2008 at 11:21 PM Report Posted February 13, 2008 at 11:21 PM A small bug: if you use English (US) or 繁體中文 and click on the reply button, it add RE: The traditional version works fine for me. If I click "reply" 回覆: shows up. Quote
atitarev Posted February 14, 2008 at 12:09 AM Report Posted February 14, 2008 at 12:09 AM Must have been a glitch, thanks. Works for me too (as you can see). Quote
imron Posted February 14, 2008 at 01:07 AM Author Report Posted February 14, 2008 at 01:07 AM Haha, yep, I guess that's the way for observant people to notice what user interface language other members are using. Quote
self-taught-mba Posted February 14, 2008 at 02:09 AM Report Posted February 14, 2008 at 02:09 AM I noticed that when I got a reply from one of the Atkins. Cool. I want to change mine to wingdings. Ha! Quote
ipsi() Posted March 25, 2008 at 01:48 AM Report Posted March 25, 2008 at 01:48 AM Is it possible for this to be set as a board preference rather than as a cookie? I notice that every time I use a new computer I have to set the language to Chinese, as it defaults to US. Which would be ok, but the University computers (not that I use them often, admittedly) don't store cookies, and thus I'd have to change it each and every time... Quote
roddy Posted March 25, 2008 at 01:52 AM Report Posted March 25, 2008 at 01:52 AM Not currently. There's a new version of Vbulletin coming up, which may do that, I'm not sure. Quote
ipsi() Posted March 25, 2008 at 01:56 AM Report Posted March 25, 2008 at 01:56 AM Ah well. Fair enough. Quote
imron Posted March 25, 2008 at 03:01 AM Author Report Posted March 25, 2008 at 03:01 AM Not currently. Go to your control panel, and at the very bottom of the "Edit Options" (编辑论坛选项) section there is a option called "Forum Language" (论坛语言) which might do the trick. Quote
roddy Posted March 25, 2008 at 03:04 AM Report Posted March 25, 2008 at 03:04 AM I did think about that, but I think that still works on cookies. Could be wrong though . . . Quote
imron Posted March 25, 2008 at 03:28 AM Author Report Posted March 25, 2008 at 03:28 AM Nope, I tested it by clearing all cookies in Safari. Setting the value in Firefox, and then loggin in via Safari. The interface correctly switched to Chinese when logged in. One thing to note though is that if set, the cookie will override the setting here. Quote
roddy Posted March 25, 2008 at 03:33 AM Report Posted March 25, 2008 at 03:33 AM Right enough, now I check there's a language field in the user table on the database. It's not accessible via the admin panel so I'd assumed it wasn't there. Quote
imron Posted March 25, 2008 at 04:16 AM Author Report Posted March 25, 2008 at 04:16 AM Hmm, not sure what Admin panel you're looking at, but on mine, the language option is right there in User Manager, located in the Profile just below Email, and just above User Title Quote
roddy Posted March 25, 2008 at 04:25 AM Report Posted March 25, 2008 at 04:25 AM So it is. i was looking down where the browsing options are set - next to the part where we can access users webcams and make their computers crash . . . Quote
