pig's head?

Hello

Can anybody help me with translating the following?

猪头三

Pig’s head 3 or something like that? :conf

It comes from the following sentence:

猪头三,谢谢啦!明天我会来的

(context: I invited a Chinese friend over for lunch and this sentence was the reply)

thanks!

Literally it means "pig head three", it can be translated as "you funny bloke", usually used between closed friends only, not used for arguing because of its funny, humorous and soft intonation.

If you tell your friend that you don't know the meaning of "豬頭三", she (probably SHE) will say, "你真是豬頭三, 讓人說了是豬頭三還要到處去問人家甚麼是豬頭三! 我果然說得沒錯!" / "你真是猪头三, 让人说了是猪头三还要到处去问人家甚么是猪头三! 我果然说得沒错!"

ni3 zhen1 shi4 zhu1 tou2 san1, rang4 ren2 shuo1 le5 shi4 zhu1 tou2 san1

hai2 yao4 dao4 chu4 qu4 wen4 ren2 jia1 shen4 me5 shi4 zhu1 tou2 san1! wo3 guo3 ran2 shuo1 de5 mei2 cuo4!"

猪头三 is a slang of shanghai dialect

between friends, it is with the meanning of "my little fool"

when in a arguement, it is just like "stupid"

Chinese people think that pigs are foolish animals despite pigs are much smarter than cattles, cats and sheeps.

In some southern dialects, people also use "猪头" instead of "猪头三".

Yup. It's Shanghainese. As the 三 (used phonetically) is often a suffix for person. So the morphemes are not pig-head-three, but pig-head-man.

猪头三 tzidousei.

It's a noun that ranges from fool, gullible man, to idiot.
