spitz Posted January 19, 2008 at 09:50 AM Report Posted January 19, 2008 at 09:50 AM Last time I was in Beijing I noticed they were about to open a new Youth Hostel in Zhōngguāncūn (very close to the bookshops area near 中关村图书大厦 Zhōngguāncūn Túshū Dàshà) called 北京海图国际青年旅舍 Beijing Haitu International Youth Hostel. I know it's a long shot but... Has anyone already stayed there, who can comment on the place? I'd be interested in knowing about the rates, general quality and services offered (internet connection and so on). I have Baidu'ed the place and it comes up in the Youth Hostel lists but they don't seem to have a website up and running yet. Also, if anyone has other ideas for places to stay near Beida for a short visit, please enlighten me. I have already stayed at 北京未名国际青年旅舍 Peking Uni International Hostel (成府路150号 Chéngfǔlù no. 150) but I'd love to find something a little bit closer to Beida's SW gate. Quote

Dani_man Posted January 19, 2008 at 04:14 PM Report Posted January 19, 2008 at 04:14 PM is that the one in front of the Google building? that is 5 minutes walk from McDolands? Quote
spitz Posted January 19, 2008 at 10:28 PM Author Report Posted January 19, 2008 at 10:28 PM self-taught-mba, thanks for the tip. I've edited the original message and I'll remember including pinyin in future posts. Dani_man, the one in front of the Google building is the Peking Uni International Hostel. FWIW, I've already been there twice and it's an ok place. They make you pay all your stay in advance but the double is only 198 RMB/night and it's very conveniently located close to Wudaokou. It's also very close to the bridge where the airport bus stops. My only concern is that it's at least a 15 min walk from Beida's E gate and, since I'm going in February, I'd like to avoid walking too much outdoors if possible. Quote
spitz Posted October 17, 2008 at 12:40 PM Author Report Posted October 17, 2008 at 12:40 PM I finally checked out the place myself this July and wasn't too impressed. I found it very overpriced for the indifferent service they offer. It costs around 300 yuan (that was before the Olympic price hike) for basically the same kind of room I have always paid 200 yuan for. I think I'll stick to my other options next time, even if they're a bit further from the Beida campus. Quote
donneth Posted October 21, 2008 at 01:15 AM Report Posted October 21, 2008 at 01:15 AM Sorry to jump into this thread with my own questions... I'm currently staying at the peking international youth hostel mentioned above (that faces the google building) and in china for 6 weeks studying at an undecided school. Is it worth looking for anything cheaper/more convenient than this place? I wasn't sure if 200rmb per night was about right for a 6 week stay or if I should look for something cheaper. Actually they are making me pay 230rmb per night but hopefully I can bargain down to 200 if I agree to stay for 6 weeks. Quote
randydandy Posted October 30, 2008 at 12:48 AM Report Posted October 30, 2008 at 12:48 AM i think 200 per night IS expensive. just rent a room at around 2000kuai per month. it will be alot cheaper. the hostel mentioned is near SW gate of Beida. I've passed that place. its like 200 meters away from Beida. you just need to cross the junction Quote
