chengyu that describes division of a country?

Is there any chengyu that describes a country that is divided/separated into two sides, like during a Civil War?

I was trying to invent my own: yi guo liang duan (no IME on this computer), but I guess that isn't legal

Try '分崩离析', but it may not be just two parts in the end.

"一國兩斷" isn't a chengyu, you may try:

狗咬狗骨. --- A dogs bites the bone of a dog. (dogs eat dogs)

相煎何太急 or 煮豆燃豆 -- derived from an ancient story about a brother trying to kill his brother.

But i can't think of any commonly used chengyu referring the present status of Taiwan Strait. We often say KMT "出走台灣" and lead to "兩岸分治".

You may think of a country that is divided/separated into 3 sides. In that sense, I guess it may turn out to be “三足鼎立”.

Sometimes, when a country is divided/separated into 2 sides, it may finally end up with 2 smaller countries, like Eastern / Western Germany, North / South Korea.

Sometimes, when a country is divided/separated into 2 sides, it may finally end up with 2 smaller countries, like Eastern / Western Germany, North / South Korea.

There is only one Germany now.

What comes up in my mind is not really a chengyu that describes the division of a country, but the begining of the "Romance of the three kingdoms", which goes -

話說天下大勢，分久必合，合久必分。

It is a general truism of this world that anything long divided will surely unite, and anything long united will surely divide.
