Quest Posted February 11, 2008 at 01:44 AM Report Posted February 11, 2008 at 01:44 AM Like others have mentioned, it is wrong for you to give a girl you are pursuing red pocket money. It's as bad as giving money to a girl in the west and asking her to be your date at the same time. It's kinda insulting. Good Chinese girls would not take your money or gifts without doing anything for you, they'd feel indebted to you. It's ok to take her to dinner, or other public entertainment venues. Quote
Cadal Posted February 11, 2008 at 02:22 AM Author Report Posted February 11, 2008 at 02:22 AM Quest, your right but I didn't say you or anyone else was wrong about that did i? I think i mentioned this... I thought it was just like a Christmas card and that I was giving out a good gesture. I was wrong and compounded by having spent two hours on a very hot day trying to find them in the city (cost me work time money too, I get paid by the hour). I can only say sorry so many times and can not change that i made a cultural mistake while in Australia to a Chinese girl that has been here for six years. I can just try not to make more. Joining this forum should help with that. Thanks for the feedback. Quote
huisheng Posted February 11, 2008 at 01:24 PM Report Posted February 11, 2008 at 01:24 PM I didn't see she refused him on the phone when reading through the thread. But think about that, if the girl thought he was buying her to be his date, feeling too uncomfortable to even talk to him face to face, it's reasonable what she did. Of course she may be a rude person actually. I don't know her. And although I don't agree the above generalisation about Chinese. I too dislike people being rude on the phone, no matter they mean to or not. Cadal, it's sweet of you to learn another culture just for that girl. Good luck with you. Quote
