chine_invasion Posted February 8, 2008 at 06:12 AM Report Share Posted February 8, 2008 at 06:12 AM Hi, I'm new to this whole forum thing. But I have a question, and will really appreciate if anyone can provide me with some valuable informations. I bought a new desktop and I downloaded the English version QQ, but it wasn;t working, so I've downloaded the Chinese version. I got to sign on, but I can't read anything, all the words are like this "@#$$^@^@@%^&", my pc does have the pinyin input method. But how do I insert chinese for the pc to be able to read it, at the same time keep my computer language original English. All I wanted it to do was to able to read what's on QQ. I've done it before with the laptop, but I paid for someone to help me. But I've moved to the US, and I don't know anyone. PLEASE, if anyone knows what I'm talking about, post back. Note: I have a windows Vista English Version (I don't want to change the English Version, I just want the computer to be able to read chinese. Ex: QQ or Chinese songs that I download) THANKS:)

taijidan Posted February 8, 2008 at 08:00 PM Report Share Posted February 8, 2008 at 08:00 PM You have 2 options: The one I recommend is to get a free utility from Microsoft called AppLocale. 1) Search for that on google and you can download it. 2) Run a reg file like this: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTexefileshellLocale Chinese] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTexefileshellLocale Chinesecommand] @="C:WINDOWSAppPatchAppLoc.exe "%1" "/L0804"" 3) Then right click on QQ.exe and choose Local Chinese. The other is option is to change your codepage to Chinese in the region settings on windows - but then you'll probably find that QQ works but all your other programs are broken. LaoZhang Posted February 9, 2008 at 12:06 AM Report Share Posted February 9, 2008 at 12:06 AM I had the same issue you had. The other solutions will work, but these are the steps I took (for XP): 1. Open control panel 2. Open Regional and Language Options 3. Choose "Advanced" tab 4. Under "Language for non-Unicode programs" select "Chinese (PRC)" 5. Restart your computer. This hasn't messed up any of my programs, although my wireless card settings (set through my IBM Thinkpad Wireless utility and not Windows) are in Chinese, but I don't mind. If I could do it all over, I'd just install the new QQ which Senzhi gave you a link to. I'm just lazy, tho.
Senzhi Posted February 9, 2008 at 05:33 AM Report Share Posted February 9, 2008 at 05:33 AM The one I recommend is to get a free utility from Microsoft called AppLocale. AppLocale is not Vista compatible at the moment. It will give you an error during installation. Tencent Messenger works fine and solves all problems as it's multilingual. It also eliminates all spam the traditional QQ gives you (even though both applications are from the same company )
