trevelyan Posted February 10, 2008 at 07:23 AM Report Posted February 10, 2008 at 07:23 AM Quick update to let people know that we have new javascript code powering the Adsotrans popups. I've blogged about it briefly on the site. There are two major improvements though: click on any word to edit its definition in real-time highlight text to add words (don't forget to add the english) I'm really pleased with the changes personally. The new interface is tested on Internet Explorer and Firefox. I'd appreciate reports of popup/editing failures on Safari or other browsers and will make changes/fixes to support other browsers as I can. Quote

character Posted February 10, 2008 at 06:27 PM Report Posted February 10, 2008 at 06:27 PM I'm sorry, where is this available for download/install? http://adsotrans.com/downloads/ looks like it just has the Adso engine. Thanks! Quote
Luobot Posted February 10, 2008 at 07:54 PM Report Posted February 10, 2008 at 07:54 PM Very nice. Would make a great Firefox add-on tool Also worth considering: A favicon for http://adsotrans.com/ so that it fits on one's Firefox bookmarks toolbar and is recognizable without lengthy words. I'm not partial to any design, and a simple @ would serve the purpose. Quote
trevelyan Posted February 11, 2008 at 08:36 PM Author Report Posted February 11, 2008 at 08:36 PM @character - the database is distributed along with the engine. A revised version will be out tomorrow. The new javascript is just the editing interface for the website itself. Would be nice to have a favicon... any volunteers? (I'm truly awful at art).... Quote
zozzen Posted February 13, 2008 at 02:13 PM Report Posted February 13, 2008 at 02:13 PM Nice job! And it would be nice to have a simple tool to mark the pinyin tones. I just input 电子手帐 in the dictionary, but don't know how to write a tonal mark. And it seems that the system mainly support simplified Chinese and there's no conversion between them. The term 微软 shows "microsoft", but "微軟" shows "Micro" and "軟" isn't annotated. Quote
Luobot Posted February 13, 2008 at 08:37 PM Report Posted February 13, 2008 at 08:37 PM Would be nice to have a favicon... any volunteers? ... Quote
Luobot Posted February 14, 2008 at 04:43 AM Report Posted February 14, 2008 at 04:43 AM 2nd try ... Quote
trevelyan Posted February 14, 2008 at 10:47 AM Author Report Posted February 14, 2008 at 10:47 AM Awesome! First time I've seen them both. I really like the second one and will convert it into a favicon tomorrow. Quote
trevelyan Posted February 14, 2008 at 07:42 PM Author Report Posted February 14, 2008 at 07:42 PM And the favicon is up... what do you guys think? Quote
geek_frappa Posted February 20, 2008 at 05:36 PM Report Posted February 20, 2008 at 05:36 PM this is super! Quote
roddy Posted February 25, 2008 at 06:17 AM Report Posted February 25, 2008 at 06:17 AM Quick issue - testing out the implementation on the forums, and it seems that line breaks are not preserved. If I attempt to annotate [adso]你好 你好。[/adso] I get the text back, but not the spacing. Quote
trevelyan Posted February 25, 2008 at 08:14 AM Author Report Posted February 25, 2008 at 08:14 AM Let me take a look at it. Can probably figure out what is going on. That being said, I honestly think you'll get a much more usable site using the automatic wrapping that the WordPress plugin provides. It breaks up the annotating span tags at every ASCII entry, so you'd have two bits to annotate rather than one, and the response time will be faster. Quote
trevelyan Posted February 25, 2008 at 08:29 AM Author Report Posted February 25, 2008 at 08:29 AM Was defensively stripping tags before processing text. Have disabled this for now. But really think you should be marking up only the Chinese content for submission. I'll send you an email with the code that will do this automatically. Quote
roddy Posted February 25, 2008 at 08:34 AM Report Posted February 25, 2008 at 08:34 AM Yeah, I can understand that - however, if I'm going to let people tag stuff on the forums I can't guarantee that they will . . . It's not a major issue though, just something I noticed during testing. Quote
