muyongshi Posted June 22, 2008 at 02:19 PM Report Posted June 22, 2008 at 02:19 PM Watched it this afternoon and it was a LOT better than I anticipated. It wasn't incredibly deep or anything, just a great laugh with a decent story line! Quote
Quest Posted June 22, 2008 at 08:36 PM Report Posted June 22, 2008 at 08:36 PM Got mentally collapsed on hearing 'Master Wugui.' Am I seeing another Chinese word dive into the pool of English vocabulary? I think Master "sheefoo" has a better chance if not already. Quote
Meng Lelan Posted June 22, 2008 at 11:16 PM Report Posted June 22, 2008 at 11:16 PM Is there a Chinese version of this movie - voice in Chinese AND Chinese subtitles? I'd prefer to watch it at my keyboard. Quote
imron Posted June 22, 2008 at 11:27 PM Report Posted June 22, 2008 at 11:27 PM I found it slightly amusing that they were essentiall calling him Master Master. It's like ATM Machine and PIN number Quote
roddy Posted June 23, 2008 at 12:57 AM Report Posted June 23, 2008 at 12:57 AM Is there a Chinese version of this movie - voice in Chinese AND Chinese subtitles? I'd prefer to watch it at my keyboard. There's certainly a dubbed version playing in Chinese cinemas. Whether it's available online or not I don't know. Quote
Meng Lelan Posted June 23, 2008 at 01:50 AM Report Posted June 23, 2008 at 01:50 AM There's certainly a dubbed version playing in Chinese cinemas. Whether it's available online or not I don't know. Ok, that's what I was wondering. Maybe imron can find the Chinese voice-and-caption version online, or we have to wait for the captioned DVD to come out. We deaf Chinese learners need captions, you know.... Quote
gougou Posted June 23, 2008 at 02:29 AM Report Posted June 23, 2008 at 02:29 AM The version imron linked to actually does have Chinese subtitles, but they are hard to read. You might want to try downloading a higher-resolution version, or indeed waiting for the DVD. If you even need to wait, I would imagine that in China they should be available already? Quote
roddy Posted June 23, 2008 at 03:00 AM Report Posted June 23, 2008 at 03:00 AM There are a couple of different versions of the subtitles - the one on the Youku link isn't the one we had at the cinema. Not sure what the Youku ones are like, but the cinema ones (where the panda is 阿宝, not whatever he is on Youku) are decent. Quote
imron Posted June 23, 2008 at 10:41 AM Report Posted June 23, 2008 at 10:41 AM Just have a quick look then, but it seems everywhere I looked online all has the same English dub with Chinese subtitles. Quote
Meng Lelan Posted June 23, 2008 at 11:51 AM Report Posted June 23, 2008 at 11:51 AM Decent Chinese captions (subtitles) and Chinese sound track are what I am looking for. Maybe I should wait for the DVD? Does the DVD come out the same time as the movie in China? In the US we have to wait a few months after the movie release. Meaning a lot of deaf people in the US have to wait a few months then buy the DVD with captions. Movie theaters in the US generally do not have captions. Quote
imron Posted June 23, 2008 at 12:16 PM Report Posted June 23, 2008 at 12:16 PM Does the DVD come out the same time as the movie in China? Usually the DVD comes out before the movie Quote
self-taught-mba Posted June 23, 2008 at 04:50 PM Report Posted June 23, 2008 at 04:50 PM Which flash ripper rips from youku? Not really interested in cartoon pandas, but been meaning to ask and since we are directed there once again . . . Viewing source doesn't give a flv or swf -tyuped Quote
skylee Posted June 28, 2008 at 10:59 AM Report Posted June 28, 2008 at 10:59 AM I saw the film today. I think it is ok. Quote
Alvinho Posted July 21, 2008 at 12:49 PM Report Posted July 21, 2008 at 12:49 PM the film is being shown only in dubbed copies around my country.......while they don't release its DVD, I won't watch it because I hate dubbed films....... Lucy Liu is my Chinese goddess even though born in the US... Quote
Don_Horhe Posted July 21, 2008 at 08:59 PM Report Posted July 21, 2008 at 08:59 PM Yeah, I also hate dubbed films - it kills everything. Quote
Yuchi Posted July 22, 2008 at 12:41 AM Report Posted July 22, 2008 at 12:41 AM I thought it was more entertaining than I had expected. Quote
md1101 Posted July 22, 2008 at 05:03 AM Report Posted July 22, 2008 at 05:03 AM i saw this movie a week ago while in china. i thought it was brilliant. wonderful job by dreamworks. my girlfriend (chinese) kept telling me about it the whole time i was there until i finally saw it. she obviously loved it too. she did mention that a few chinese protested about the fact many were represented as pigs. though i didn't really get that considering there were rabbits and other animals too.. Quote
ABCinChina Posted August 10, 2008 at 02:39 AM Report Posted August 10, 2008 at 02:39 AM I did not even notice that the Chinese people were being portrayed as pigs until my girlfriend mentioned it to me. I don't take it so offensively but obviously some people do. Quote
imron Posted August 10, 2008 at 03:55 AM Report Posted August 10, 2008 at 03:55 AM Because the panda, tiger, snake, crane, ducks etc weren't Chinese? I think some people are just reading too much into it. Quote
renzhe Posted August 10, 2008 at 05:43 AM Report Posted August 10, 2008 at 05:43 AM I wasn't particularly impressed by this. The rendering was great and, as far as cartoons go, it was OK, but I found the story and the characters shallow, and basically a rehashing of all the stereotypical Karate-Kid ripoffs of the 80s and 90s. I didn't particularly care about the story or the characters. This is a problem I have with most of Dreamworks movies (other than the wonderful Shrek series and the movies made by Aardman, like Chicken Run). I guess I'm spoiled by Pixar movies, which speak to my soul, and which I love to bits and pieces. Quote
