lilongyue Posted February 11, 2008 at 07:25 AM Report Share Posted February 11, 2008 at 07:25 AM Anyone had a PSP Slim modified in China? Just bought one in the States, and heading back to Hangzhou in a few days. I have a PSP slim, firmware version 3.72. Thanks
BrandeX Posted February 11, 2008 at 11:13 AM Report Share Posted February 11, 2008 at 11:13 AM The psp doesn't vary by region like home consoles. You would follow the same procedures for hacking the firmware. You can get directions and whatnot here: http://www.pspmod.com/
lilongyue Posted February 11, 2008 at 07:58 PM Author Report Share Posted February 11, 2008 at 07:58 PM True, but the Slim is an exception. If I want to run something like Pandora's Battery, which allows me to downgrade the firmware and run Homebrew, I need to do it on an already modified PSP. Before I can modify a PSP Slim's firmware, I need a Pandora's Battery. Problem is that with newer battery modles, I can't run the Pandora's Battery software to change it into a Pandora's Battery. So, I need to physically modify the actually battery, which will allow me make the initial "change" to the firware that will then allow me to run a homebrew and do all the cool things I want to do. Modifying the battery is simple procedure. There's one little pin on a chip that you need to either solder off, or just break off. I'm just worried about screwing up and rendering the battery useless. Figured I could have someone do it for me in a computer market. I posted this question because I was wondering fi there was someone who had done this before. If I had a an older PSP, like the 1000 series, it would be MUCH simpler, but I don't. Prodigal Son Posted February 11, 2008 at 09:51 PM Report Share Posted February 11, 2008 at 09:51 PM I don't have a psp and I haven't modded one in China but my strong suspicion is that you can get one modded at any large computer market which sells video games and does console modification (there are many in every major city). Tommi Posted February 12, 2008 at 03:33 AM Report Share Posted February 12, 2008 at 03:33 AM It's very easy and cheap to get it modded, like said above, any marketplace selling games will be able to do it, no problem at all.
dieselpo Posted February 13, 2008 at 04:46 AM Report Share Posted February 13, 2008 at 04:46 AM Got a quote of '100 yuan and 15 minutes' to pimp a PSP from a video game store in Hangzhou. If you shop around at the one of the larger computer markets I'm sure you could get a better price.
lilongyue Posted February 17, 2008 at 12:13 AM Author Report Share Posted February 17, 2008 at 12:13 AM OK, thanks everyone. I'm back in Hangzhou now, and am meeting a Chinese friend who had his PSP modified at computer market. He said it should cost between 10-20 yuan (so, much cheaper with the "white skin tax" removed). Also going to buy a replacement power cable, since I left mine at home. By the way, original price quoted for a replacement cable 150 RMB, but my Chinese friend said it should be around 50 RMB. Just a heads up for anyone else who needs to buy one. Going this afternoon, so will know for sure if 50 RMB is really enough.
