doumeizhen Posted February 14, 2008 at 06:44 PM Report Posted February 14, 2008 at 06:44 PM I consulted with my bank who said that all I needed to wire money to the states was the following: - Bank name, Bank of America - Name on receiving account - Originating State of the receiving account - Checking or savings account number, 12 digit account number - Wire transfer routing number, 026009593 - Swift Code, BOFAUS3N But when my friend went to wire money, they said they also needed the address of the bank. Has anyone done this before? What address do they need exactly, or are they wrong? Thanks for any advice! Quote
yonglin Posted February 14, 2008 at 06:57 PM Report Posted February 14, 2008 at 06:57 PM I've never done this from China, but I remember that when I walked into an office to do it here in England, they ask you to fill out loads of irrelevant stuff, including branch address, etc. etc. When I do it on my online bank, however, I just fill in the numbers, and never had any problems. I would imagine that it's not a technical requirement, because all that information is contained in the SWIFT code anyway. It might be more if the particular branch has some special policy, like if they want to double-check that you wrote all the numbers correctly or something like that. Quote
kdavid Posted February 15, 2008 at 12:11 AM Report Posted February 15, 2008 at 12:11 AM I send money home every quarter. I have to include all of that information and then some. Also, as a foreigner I'm only allowed to send a very small amount of money home. However, my fiance can wire as much as she wants, so she does it for us, and she has to fill out a lot of personal information as well. Quote
BrandeX Posted February 15, 2008 at 03:43 AM Report Posted February 15, 2008 at 03:43 AM My girlfriend recently wired some money to my USA account for the first time a few weeks ago. For the address all that I found on the bank website under international wire transfer info for an address was "San Francisco, CA USA" and it worked. Quote
Rincewind Posted February 16, 2008 at 02:40 AM Report Posted February 16, 2008 at 02:40 AM While you don't need to give every bit of information asked for, you must remember that international transfers are not fool proof. When I asked my UK bank about what information to give to the sender, they said tell them as much as possible. The more information, the less likely an error is and the easier it will be to rectify a problem. I always include my banks full address and postcode (zip code). Quote
tcador Posted February 25, 2008 at 03:23 AM Report Posted February 25, 2008 at 03:23 AM My wife and I wired money on Thursday and provided the items you listed. Like Rincewind stated, the more information the better. FYI - we sent the money Thursday at noon, and it was in China within a few hours. We were very pleased. Quote
