feebie Posted February 18, 2008 at 02:39 PM Report Posted February 18, 2008 at 02:39 PM What makes you homesick? Is it when you are having a bad day at work? When big happens at home and you are not there? When you are having a bad China day? When it's your birthday? When you attend so many goodbye parties in one week? Anyway I find getting the flu in my original country getting the flu is not that big deal. When I get the flu in China.....I just miss everything about home and crave something familiar. I feel lonely -- it is the worst feeling. Also I dread the thought of having to deal with doctors /pharmacies etc here. What makes you homesick? Quote
DrWatson Posted February 18, 2008 at 02:46 PM Report Posted February 18, 2008 at 02:46 PM I'm not in China but I'm abroad. And I have to say that having a bad week in the office makes me homesick. Verbally, I can fight back and defend my position better in my native language. Also, I always get homesick during Autumn for some reason. It just doesn't compare. Quote
Rincewind Posted February 18, 2008 at 04:03 PM Report Posted February 18, 2008 at 04:03 PM Not much makes me homesick. Here is better than back home. I've been back home and after a couple of weeks I was itching to come back here. Thin one thing I do miss is flu remedies. Not Blighty, just the wide range of available syrups, nasal sprays, cough drops and other pills and lotions that make a bad cold just that little bit easier. Most of all I miss Andrex tissues with moisturising balm impregnated in them. Anything else just makes your nose dry and red. Quote

gougou Posted February 19, 2008 at 05:49 AM Report Posted February 19, 2008 at 05:49 AM The thought of blue skies and untouched forests... Also when I was home last time, and met a 90-some year old relative that I hadn't seen for a long time, as well as my 80-some year old grandparents in France, it made me very sad to think I live so far away from them. feebie Posted February 19, 2008 at 07:42 AM Author Report Posted February 19, 2008 at 07:42 AM Yeah I miss blue skies during summer It feels weird to wake up in the morning hot and then the first thing I see out the window is a grey sky I just don't think of grey skies as a summer thing Quote
Lu Posted February 19, 2008 at 09:25 AM Report Posted February 19, 2008 at 09:25 AM Waking up in the morning and wanting to eat bread. And going back home, seeing friends, and realizing I left all that behind. (Senzhi, you should come live in Taiwan. Beer is expensive, but plentiful, and I know one bar that has a five-page menu of Belgian beer.) Quote
Shadowdh Posted February 19, 2008 at 10:16 AM Report Posted February 19, 2008 at 10:16 AM Every sunday as thats when I speak with my wife and kids via skype video... and if they have had a busy week and have done lots of stuff or maybe a "first" (first time they did something) then that tends to make me feel a bit homesick... simonlaing Posted February 20, 2008 at 04:53 AM Report Posted February 20, 2008 at 04:53 AM Spring festival , and seeing lots of family gatherings make me homesick. having my bicycle stolen. (though this is the worst crime I have had in China in 7 plus years). It makes me homesick for cars not the safety of suburbia. Quote
