mkengel Posted February 20, 2008 at 11:08 AM Report Posted February 20, 2008 at 11:08 AM How can I read a Word Perfect file ? If I try to open it with MSWord or OpenOffice, it is not readable. It contains Chinese and German characters. Thank you. Michael Quote
skylee Posted February 20, 2008 at 12:36 PM Report Posted February 20, 2008 at 12:36 PM Pardon this post as it offers no solution. I just find it surprising that wordperfect is still being used. I think it is an obsolete software. If it is not obsolete, please also forgive my ignorance. Quote
smalltownfart Posted February 20, 2008 at 01:28 PM Report Posted February 20, 2008 at 01:28 PM When u opened the file in word, did u select the "Type" that corresponds to your file? e.g. Word Perfect 5.x ,Word Perfect 6.x... I think Word Perfect also uses the .doc file extension, perhaps that may be the cause of your problem...? Quote
roddy Posted February 20, 2008 at 01:31 PM Report Posted February 20, 2008 at 01:31 PM Assuming it's nothing confidential, upload it here (may need to zip or rar it if it's an unusual extension) and we'll all have a go Quote
mkengel Posted February 20, 2008 at 02:21 PM Author Report Posted February 20, 2008 at 02:21 PM These are old files . Unfortunately, I don't have the permission to upload them; it is a book where the author allowed me to copy the Chinese-German translations which it contains. Thanks for your comments. Michael Quote
Senzhi Posted February 20, 2008 at 04:58 PM Report Posted February 20, 2008 at 04:58 PM Michael, I think this might help you out, depending on the version of your current MS Office software and the version of Word Perfect: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HP052742911033.aspx Good luck! Quote
YuehanHao Posted February 21, 2008 at 01:56 AM Report Posted February 21, 2008 at 01:56 AM I have been a regular user of Wordperfect and have the software. Although it has certain weaknesses, overall I would rate it above the more well-known competitor (aside from the unfortunate fact that nobody else uses it). For one thing, unlike the version of the competitor's software I have, WP allows the option of saving a file to pdf directly in the program. Maybe if the original poster can find a friend who has WP X3, s/he could save these files as pdf for him to view? Sorry if that is no mean feat... 约翰好! Quote
